Biding my time (2005 take)

Wrote this one in the 90's and wanted to do a kind of B-52's but with a weird time signature twist, so it's all in 7/4. Recorded this around 2005, but just now dusting it off.

B w U (partial 1st take)

This take in 2005 doesn't include the whole song. I was worried it was taking too long to retain anyone's attention. The concept was a salute to "7", including Shakespeare's "All the world's a stage" soliloquy and the Bible's 7 eras, corresponding with 7 days in a week, etc. So the whole song is in 7. But 7 x 7 makes for a very long song, so I got nervous no one would stick around for the conclusion. So, it's like 4 7ths of a song.

Vagabond (2005)

Also from the 2005 collection, I recorded only two thirds of this song. It ends in a better tone. But I got frustrated with the recording and cut it off here. I didn't record the whole song--the lyrics here complete the set.

Cursed (2005 partial take)

Wrote this one in the early 90's, originally as "Vegas Night" based on my first trip to Vegas and seeing the lights from the hillside as the bus drove into Vegas. But then I realized the desert sky is way more interesting than Vegas, so there you go. Experimental in the sense it throws in an extra beat here and there.

Yes, there's a heavy JT reference, but that's on purpose. Wrote this one when my (now ex) wife visited me in Provo after traveling from Germany and had a reasonable amount of jet lag. Wrote this as kind of a joke when she was sleeping and I was wide awake.

Obviously a light-hearted take on Keats... But also about the permanent desire for love contrasted with immutable distance between lovers. Simple chords with all instruments in jam mode.

Figured Out

Just started my own studio and dusting off some old tracks, creating new ones, and looking for local collaborators. 

I'm no one's vocalist, more of a songwriter. Could use some help here. My kids are all fantastic musicians (way better than I am), so check them out! (see preemptive painkillers)

The 2005 stuff was recorded on a Yamaha workstation (that could cut a CD--remember those?) and 2 microphones, which made recording drums (my main instrument) a total nightmare.
