Minor Rain is an artist of real diversity and depth who has a deep emotive connection with the music he produces. An accomplished musician who plays piano and sax, drawing on influences from a range of diverse sources from film scores and sound design to artists covering all spectrums of electronic music such as Noisia, Audio, Amon Tobin and Hans Zimmer to name a few. Taking inspiration from artists of that caliber, high-end production values were always going to be an integral part of his work, this providing the foundation for his musicality, with the two elements complimenting each other perfectly. He’s an artist whose aspiration is to produce something truly unique and original. 

His latest release, forthcoming on Addictive Behaviour, highlights his ability to not only work at different tempos but also how he’s able to go from the melodic, to the dark and minimal or stylishly blending both laid over precision engineered drum edits.

Shimmering high hats, reverbed bleeps and haunting strings open the Flux track before a short kick and snare leads to the breakdown. Crunchy vox sounds combined with filtered drums and metallic synths ready the track before dropping into a big growling metallically industrial synth and weighty sub that drives the track on. And with a few subtle synth and bass switches this makes for a polished, dark and techy slammer of a track.

Opening with the eerie spookiness of a crypt, the dark, synth chord progressions lead a path to glassy hats and skeletal shuffling breaks before dropping into unrestrained, bouncing, ratcheting bass fluctuations. Spiralling distorted synth hits and a viciously snappy, spatially dimensioned drum pattern takes you through a porthole to the darkest back channels of DNB.

One year on from the launch of their inaugural “Rotation” programme, Addictive Behaviour’s various-artist shuttle orbits earth once more. On board this time, a crew of 21 intrepid pioneers, bringing with them a diverse spectrum of musicality and D&B engineering expertise to the quest. Armed, locked and loaded with an assault of sophisticated phonic weaponry, their mission is simple. Audio annihilation!

This 2nd chapter to Addictive Behaviour’s dynamic album series is their most ambitious project to date. An otherworldly journey showcasing an edgy and explosive array of raw talent from a collective of old and new artists from the Addictive camp. Embarking on this Rotation, and making their label debut is an impressive ensemble of well-known names as well as fresh up and coming, cutting edge producers. Nick Bee rains in the darker, techy vibes with his “Ghetto Politics”, as do Kyrist & Babarix in their obliterating “Maikuro Funk” collab. Meanwhile, Release, Tephra & Arkoze, Data 3 & Modu provide their own unique variations, beaming with moody subs and percussive vibes, encapsulating the Addictive Behaviour tone to great effect. Philth adds a fresh, melodic, vocal composition to the deep end of the mix in “The Big Question” whilst Dom & Roland’s Xanadu is commissioned for remixing duties delivering an explosive new take on Detail’s “Breakout”.

Talking of which, joining the new recruits on this expedition, long term label regulars Detail & L 33 step into the fray, flexing their elements of neuro-tech styles and adding momentum to this growing satellite of revolving music production. Also on board this charter, some recent Addictive additions. Mystic State’s “Eye Contact” and Nami’s “Downpour” push the audio transit on with their bass fuelled roller’s rocketing us in to unknown territory.

Finally, kicking in the afterburn, are the Rotation – Part One veterans. Artifact returns with another relentless aural display in “Materialist” whilst Fade brings a heavy metallic attack in “Hold Tight” Finishing off the universal carnage TR Tactics are joined by relative label newcomers The Clamps to bring us a full on neuro assault in “Conscious”.

Rotation –Part Two will be making it’s re-entry in to Earth’s atmosphere on September the 30th. The 14 track LP is an awe-inspiring amalgamation of complex layered productions showing us once again the label’s ability to evolve. An immersive and varied, frontier pushing display with one unifying theme echoing from its core once again. . . Good quality production.

2017 is set to be a defining year for Addictive Behaviour. Over the past few months the label has truly found its sound and we’re dishing it out relentlessly in the months ahead with multiple parties lining up alongside some boundary pushing music. Our second release of the year sees our predominantly tech-roller outfit return to vinyl ventures with a 3 track wax EP of epic proportions, mysteriously titled ‘New Age Myths’.

First up on the release roster is the illustrious Kyrist with her cryptic tale ‘The Drifted’. Opening with some incredible atmospherics you are instantly transported to an unknown land, like a ship that’s sailed into hostile territories. The cinematic production builds momentum before fading out with a haunting crash. Suddenly, out of the void creeps an intricate drum pattern with sharp synths cutting through, catapulting us into new realms. The sound design in this track is extraordinary, switching and fluctuating with every bar, captivating to the very end.

Next in this chronicle is ‘Basilisk’. A collaboration from recent Addictive production trilogy Data 3 and relative newcomers Revaux. ‘Basilisk’ entices you in with eerie vibes. A trickle of rasping hats and shuffles alongside airy pads swimming under the filtered surface. Then a human like cry fades out to introduce fierce bass and kick drums as this monster rears its heavy head. The track pulsates along with ferocity, the rhythm constantly flowing. You’ll find it hard not to give this roller the old D&B head nod. It’s sure to be shaking the foundations of dance floors over the coming months.

The final chapter is told by Mystic State featuring the gritty talents of MC Tension on the mic. ‘Blurred Vision’ creeps in slow and stealth-like before chopping in a heavy kick-snare beat. Then it’s over to the sharp tongued Tension to give it that murky vocal lick. “It’s action re-action, reload the ammo to obtain satisfaction” And satisfaction is bang on the money here, as we drop in to subby, gravelly basslines and hard edged drums that will make you want to reload this one for another dose of pure fire. Hard hitting expertly crafted D&B, the perfect fix for any addict.

The New Age Myths EP is a musical chronology that sounds like it’s been sent straight from the future. It brings together a pedigree of young talent, all of which are destined to become big in the game. To celebrate this joint effort release, we’re throwing a launch party for the EP on Good Friday. We are stoked to announce the return of a couple of Lifestyle veterans to the catalogue, Bristol boys Ill Truth have served up another piping hot serving of drum & bass for you lot to get stuck into. Few may know this, but Jay and Haden’s debut release as Ill Truth actually came out on our label.. Almost three years ago they touched down with Hivemind // The Realist and started their journey as the duo, and what a trajectory! 

Producing out of Bristol, their music has sent them worldwide, and they’ve become of the most important & current acts in their city’s scene. With releases spanning some of dnb’s most seminal labels such as Shogun & Dispatch, and a recent stellar release on CIA, it’s hard to find a corner of the scene as yet untouched by these two incredibly hard-working producer DJs.

Which is why we couldn’t be happier that they’ve hit us up with the fire, their first original release with the label since last summer’s collab on Creatures debut EP! Two slices of rowdy, bassy dancefloor music, with the unmistakable Ill Truth sound. They’ve taking it all the way back to their roots with a VIP of The Realist off their first ever release, so this is a special one for the label and for the boys. Get it down ya. 

‘Eazy Rider’ sees the boys team up with Bluejay for a heavy cut of deep tech. Built around a driving, snappy break, the tune foregrounds a slick and minimal bass groove, with mid-range wobbles and accents peppered throughout. A mature sound from the lads, this one sits nicely between heavy dancefloor music and head-nodding minimal dnb. 

The Realist VIP is a different story, an absolute shoe thrower of a tune. Originally a moody half-time track, the VIP absolutely flips it on it’s head, crafting it into a big, stinky, rave tune. Subtlety is thrown out the window, and instead you get hit with funked-out, beautifully constructed reese riffs, delivered via a big, banging break. Insanely danceable and super-catchy, this ones built for robust trainers and telling strangers in the dance to fuck off.

Drawing on his own life experiences and various influences along the way, he delivers an inspired release with the help of some friends.

The mysteriously titled ‘Simulacra’, is a concept based around altered perceptions, alternative realities and being removed from the world as we know it by technology. Wreckless defines this message throughout the release with his postmodern take on production worm-holing through eras with its nostalgic nods to bygone days but still remaining fresh and future-thinking. 

'Simulacra' also explores roads less travelled, experimenting with an assortment of styles and tempos which pay homage to numerous genres. And to round off the impressive array, Wreckless enlists the help of producer friends Necrobia and Sweetpea, who add their own individual touches to this collection of varied, tense and captivating cuts.

The first part, consisting of five new productions, is just the beginning of a larger project too. A follow up EP from Wreckless is expected to hit later this year and will continue to deliver the message, urging you to take off the filter, put down the phone and just listen to the raw original music.
