Identity is a crazy concept; everything we are, have been, and will be stuffed into a single word. Knowing who we are almost seems like the ultimate personal clarity. It's the natural thing to strive for, especially since we have such a self-aware consciousness to begin with.

So what's the point in figuring it out? It's so easy to use ego to fortify the image we have of ourselves. It makes us hurt when we're forced to unlearn things, when we're forced to challenge what we thought was right. Not to mention that our unconscious minds will ALWAYS know more about ourselves than our conscious minds will. In that respect, it's like chasing a carrot on a stick. Maybe clarity can be found in accepting that we can never know entirely, that it's always malleable. Or maybe there's a way of connecting the two, to be in touch with all that you are.

Without identity, we wouldn't have any stories worth telling or listening to. We'd have no confrontation with contradiction, which is the sole reason we learn in the first place. I guess that's a good thing? Learning is good. I like stories.

Chase Something That I Am

Wherever we look, there is symbolism - that which is imbued in archetypes across all of human culture, that which is implied through speech and the compressing of thought into words, and that which we must create or find for ourselves for our lives to have meaning.

That last one is a kick in the balls, and for good reason. I recently heard David Choe talk about his visit to Tanzania, where hunter/gatherers still exist and thrive, all without internet or anything. He said how they look to the western world, and don't understand why someone would take their own life. But that doesn't seem like a failure to have compassion on their part, and is instead due to the fact that the only things they can afford to think about is hunting and resting. So it makes sense that as humanity progresses, and our lives become easier and more automated, our minds take control. We're some of the first generations who have to CREATE purpose for ourselves. We're machines at combating physical suffering, it's what we're built for, it's what's allowed us to exist for so long; so where do we suffer when our immediate safety isn't at risk? In our heads.

And that comes back to symbolism. The meaning is there, we just have to extract it. If I had the answers on how to do that, then I would say them, but I don't because I think that when we go into our own minds, it becomes extremely subjective. Our consciousness is the only thing we truly own, so it should be entirely up to you how you spend the time while it's still something you have. That being said, by adopting the intention to derive as much meaning and beauty as possible, we're not only nurturing a surefire way to find purpose, but also inadvertently giving ourselves an underlying purpose to accompany it.

But yeah, enjoy the music. I'm excited about these new ones :)

Love is the answer. It’s a key, a cosmic binding agent, a phrase lost in cliché, but so is every truth. In the absence of love and empathy, all that exists is division, and all that division creates is anger, fear, hatred, war. Division is our detriment.

We’re all existing. We’re all the same species. We all benefit enormously from projecting and receiving love. We needn’t be the same, but we needn’t be apposed either. If that’s not enough to create a flawlessly strong foundation for empathy, then that’s ego talking. By being unwilling to feel empathy, that’s us identifying and affiliating too closely with what information we have absorbed throughout our lives, of which we have little and decreasing control over. That’s us choosing to be ruled by the structure of ego, rather than using it as a tool to help us along.

Ecstasy

We're in a jungle, parting through the vines, exploring the unknown, curiosity either burning or dying at the sight of this completely alien place. We can never see the labyrinth in its entirety, and even if you could, it's always changing, growing, passing. Whenever we try to traverse it, it seems like outright foreign terrain. But that doesn't mean you have no control of what grows there. Take care of your jungle, enjoy the song :)

In 2018 I put out my first project Radiant Dark. It's an album about how we live in a society.
