Pablo Neruda was born in Parral, Chile, in 1904. He served as consul in Burma (Myanmar) and held diplomatic posts in various East Asian and European countries, was elected to the Chilean Senate and in 1970 was appointed as Chile’s ambassador to France. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1971.

Alastair Reid was born in Whithorn, Galloway, Scotland. He published numerous collections of poetry and translation including Pablo Neruda and Jorge Luis Borges. Selected volumes of his work include Alastair Reid Reader: Selected Prose and Poetry (1994), Oases: Poems and Prose (1997), and Inside Out: Selected Poetry and Translations (2008).

Billy Collins served as U.S. Poet Laureate (2001–3) and New York State Poet Laureate (2004–6). A Guggenheim Fellow, he is the author of thirteen poetry collections including Picnic, Lightning (1998), Sailing Alone Around the Room: New and Selected Poems (2001), Aimless Love (2013), and Whale Day and Other Poems (2020).

Anne Carson is a Canadian poet, essayist, translator and professor of Classics at New York University. She was awarded a MacArthur Fellowship in 2000 and is the author of Men in the Off Hours, The Beauty of the Husband, and Autobiography of Red.

Maureen N. McLane is a poet, memoirist, critic, and educator. She has published several books of poetry, including Same Life, Finalist for the Audre Lorde/Publishing Triangle Award; This Blue, Finalist for the National Book Award in Poetry; Some Say, Finalist for the Audre Lorde/Publishing Triangle Award and for The Believer Award in Poetry; and More Anon: Selected Poems. Her book My Poets, was a New York Times Notable Book and Finalist for the 2012 National Book Critics Circle Award in Autobiography. She is Professor of English at New York University.

Mei-mei Berssenbrugge reading September 21, 2023 at the Poetry Society of America's storefront office.

Mei-mei Berssenbrugge is the author of fourteen books of poetry, including Hello, the Roses, Empathy, and I Love Artists. Her 2020 collection A Treatise on Stars was a finalist for the National Book Award and Pulitzer Prize. In 2021, she received the Bollingen Prize for Poetry, recognizing her lifetime contributions to American poetry, and was awarded the Mary McCarthy Award for writing and public engagement. She has collaborated with Kiki Smith and Richard Tuttle on the forthcoming chapbook Plant Thought.

A 2020 Guggenheim Fellow, Brian Teare is the author of eight chapbooks and six critically acclaimed books, including Companion Grasses, a finalist for the Kingsley Tufts Award, and Doomstead Days, winner of the Poetry Society’s Four Quartets Prize and a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle, Kingsley Tufts, and Lambda Literary awards. His most recent publication is the 2022 Nightboat reissue of The Empty Form Goes All the Way to Heaven; his seventh book, Poem Bitten by a Man, is forthcoming in the fall of 2023. After over a decade of teaching and writing in the San Francisco Bay Area and eight years in Philadelphia, he’s now an Associate Professor of Poetry at the University of Virginia and lives in Charlottesville, where he makes books by hand for his micropress, Albion Books.
