Hailing from Lyon in France with roots in Cameroon, multi-talented producer, songwriter and vocalist Emilie Nana makes her BBE debut with new EP ‘The Reign Of Obsolete Technology’.

Since her 2016 debut album ‘The Meeting Legacy’ was released on Compost, Emilie has been making noise throughout the global underground thanks to charismatic, instantly recognizable productions and a truly unique vocal delivery.

Warm, synth-fuelled House music with an electro feel, title track ‘The Reign Of Obsolete Technology’ is topped off with Emilie’s eccentric and scintillating spoken word hooks. London production hero Simbad strips the track back to bare bones for his potent Dub Mix, tweaking the arrangement for the dance-floor.

Second original track ‘Wild Sensations’ sets up a classic Deep House bass and drum groove, while Nana’s close-mic’d vocals take on an intimate, sensual feel. Swiss DJ and producer Crowdpleaser employs garage-infused, shuffling drums and jazzy chords for his steady building ‘Hothaus’ mix.

Counting Glenn Underground among her mentors and Louie Vega among her fans, the future looks bright for Emilie Nana, an artist in the truest sense; one whose creative potential seems limited only by her desire.

Josh Butler returns with yet another knockout production on Defected. The deep and groovy ‘Feels Good’ gained immediate attention when the DJ Mag and Beatport award-winning producer premiered it on his BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix on earlier this year. The track has an authentic house sound, as Josh blends uplifting synths and rave stabs with the feel-good powerhouse vocals of soul duo HanLei, noted for their work as Grace Jones’ backing singers. On the Dub, Josh brings the composition to heavy hitting grounds, with a deeply rhythmic bassline and breakdowns, which have already been slaying dancefloors in Ibiza and Croatia. Having worked closely with key players such as Kerri Chandler, Steve Lawler and Joris Voorn on previous releases, ‘Feels Good’ solidifies Josh as one of the most prolific and in demand producers currently on the scene.

Australian born DJ and producer Kormak has been making waves on Sydney’s club scene, curating adrenaline filled sets that have gained him more than a few high-profile fans, including Aussie man of the moment Fisher. His last track, ‘Keep On’ featured in Simon Dunmore and Sam Divine’s stand-out b2b at Defected Croatia, and his debut release with DFTD maintains his bumping, bass-driven style of production. The release opens with the title track ‘Love On The Line’, a momentum building record that shows Kormak experimenting with the deeper, dubbier side of house music. By comparison, ‘Feel’ echoes classic house tracks with its vocal, intensified drums and undeniable funk.

Shawn Christopher has been making house hits since the late 80s, including providing the vocals for Lil Louis’ #1 ‘French Kiss’ and singing for Chaka Khan. Her experience shines through on ‘You Can Make It’, produced by house music legend Ron Carroll, an original classic on Soulfuric. Now Italian duo Alaia & Gallo take on remixing duties, breathing fresh life into Christopher’s stunning vocal track. The pair have previously had a string of tracks across Defected, and this two-track release is no exception to their party-starting, uplifting production style. Their remix maintains the soulful sound of Christopher’s vocal, whilst weaving in a thundering bassline. In contrast, their Preacher Dub strips back the Christopher’s vocals, as Ron Carroll takes control with his gospel preaching lifting the spirit of the track, as Alaia & Gallo’s remixing makes the track deeper and more club-inclined.

UK techno legend Mark Broom returns to Rekids in February to release four uplifting cuts in the form of his ‘Break 97’ EP.

Mark Broom’s musical career is certainly something to behold – with over 150 releases over the past 25 years, on top of regular gigs across the world’s most renowned institutions, there’s no doubting his work ethic and his influence upon the scene. A prolific artist and true pioneer in the techno world, having worked with revered labels such as Warp, R&S, Ifach and Soma, and in more recent times Blueprint, EPM Music, Red Sonja Records and his own Beard Man Records, his ‘Break 97’ EP kick-starts 2019 for Radio Slave’s Rekids as the imprint adds yet another outstanding name to its roster following the likes of DJ Deep, Sebo K, DJ Spider and more.

‘Break 97’ sets the tone of the EP with a fusion of techno and disco, delicately blending funk-infused chords and resonating kicks amongst groove-filled vocals, before ‘Heart’ delivers inspiriting disco samples, punchy low end and elevating strings to reveal an effervescent aesthetic throughout. ‘EFB’ takes things up a notch, offering a dancefloor focused cut balancing rattling highs, vibrant synth flutters and a muffled vocal line, until ‘G Theme’ rounds out proceedings armed with robust percussion, electrifying vocals and undulating, euphoric keys.

Italian duo Mattei & Omich take inspiration from the Jungle Brothers’ ‘I’ll House You’ in their latest release on Defected. ‘I’ll House U’ captures the intentions of the original, arranged by Todd Terry, as their release aligns itself with the 20th anniversary of Defected Records, with lyrics matching the slogan ‘House Music All Life Long’, performed by recurring collaborator of the duo Keyo. Tension-building drops and a thunderous house beat make this release a self-assured party starter that pays due respect to the original, whilst sounding like a truly modern house record.

North London duo Saison, aka Matthew Bandy and Leigh Darlow, have been producing music together for the best part of two decades. Now they bring their Chicago inspired sound to Defected on their debut release with the label. ‘The Last Time’ features blissed-out vocals provided by Leon Lincoln, along with a rolling beat and subtle piano keys, to create a sophisticated house record. The release also features a remix from man of the moment Qubiko, who ups the ante with heavy bassline and tension building drops.

Following his stellar Defected debut and Billboard Dance #1 ‘You’re Sorry’, Grammy award-winning producer Todd Edwards returns to the label, teaming up with LA based crate-digger Sinden on their latest pumping release. A record that captures the spirit of the 90’s garage that has hugely influenced both producers’ careers, ‘Deeper’ illustrates the timeless quality of the duo’s styles. Often credited as the godfather of UKG, Edwards’ legendary touch is all over the track, with its chopped-up vocal sampling, time shifts and kick drums.

In 2019 Oliver Dollar made his Classic Music Company debut with the incredible 14-track collection Another Day Another Dollar. The album was an adventurous artistic statement, showing off a wider breadth and depth of sound than ever before, and was received with critical acclaim. Now three of the stand out tracks from the album get the remix treatment from some of Classic’s nearest and dearest. Opening the release, Classic founder Luke Solomon and the sparkling Honey Dijon come together to remix one of the stand out cuts, ‘John’s Church’. Originally produced in collaboration with German producer Nils Ohrmann, the pair intensify the steamy, gospel-tinged track, lacing in atmospheric keys and tension-building drops that take the dancefloor number to new dimensions. Up next, Snatch records founder Riva Starr drops his remix of ‘Crusader’, featuring Jason Hodges. Illustrating Riva’s signature dancefloor focused style, this transformative remix moves away from the stripped-back original, with a rolling bass and deep, swelling pads. Finally, Kelly G. delivers his Defected Dub of ‘The Delta’ to round off the release, taking the dreamy piano house of the vocal-led original and making it club friendly, with a bassline you can’t help but groove to.
