OST Composing Jam: PASTIME II — Dreamscape

Something a bit different from my usual metal covers! This is my submission for OST Composing Jam: PASTIME II (https://itch.io/jam/ost-composing-jam-pastime-ii). The theme was 'dreamscape', which was the perfect excuse for me to finally tackle some FFX music :) 

The songs included in this medley are To Zanarkand, Suteki Da Ne, and A Fleeting Dream, all originally composed by Nobuo Uematsu.

- Native Instruments Yangqin (dulcimer)

Dreams Of Zanarkand | FFX Medley

Normally when I orchestrate existing music, I try not to embellish too much. This time I added quite a lot of extra detail to bring out some more colour from the original track, and to fill it out a little.

I started by transcribing the track into MuseScore, before exporting MIDI and adding it to Logic Pro. Mostly I used solo instruments form Spitfire Audio's BBC Symphony Orchestra Core pack, along with the (gorgeous) Soft Piano from Spitfire Labs.

There's something so special when Terra's theme first appears in the piano in the original version of this track. I just hope I've done it justice.

Molgera Battle Theme (Epic Cover)

My cover of The Wind Forest from My Neighbor Totoro. This song has always moved me. I am so happy I was finally able to cover this beautiful piece. I wanted to make it as equally familiar as I did new, so my take ended up being this kind of hybrid Orchestral Hip Hop. I hope you enjoy it!

This is a medley of some of my favorite iconic tracks from the game Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards. While maintaining the upbeat Kirby energy, I used numerous synthesizers from Garageband and LABS to add an ethereal soundscape to capture and highlight the dreamy quality of the beautifully crafted compositions by Jun Ishikawa and Hirokazu Ando.

The tracks represented in this medley include: File Select, King Dedede's Castle, Boss Battle, Korekara Star (Neo Star), Ruins, Zero-Two, and Ripple Star Map Select.

I hope you enjoy this medley and are filled with nostalgia for this Nintendo 64 gem.
