More DSI Sequential Prophet X experiments.  The drum part here is a slightly customized version of the "Two Drummers" preset using the Super Plate reverb with a long decay time.

The bass part is my first attempt at ground-up sound design on this instrument, using sine oscillators to reinforce a layering of two different bass samples.  The oscillators have a moderate dose of tuning slop to give the foundation a more organic feel, and the whole patch routes through an envelope-driven filter that opens up more with velocity in addition to applying a little drive and resonance.

... and yes, the timing of everything is loose, to put it kindly.

Prophet X Various Samples

Another DSI Sequential Prophet X demo.  In this case, I've tweaked a factory preset to showcase just oscillators with adjustable cutoff, resonance, and drive.  The first part lowers cutoff initially, adds resonance and continues to adjust cutoff, and finally brings up drive.

After a brief pause, a second play through starts in the same place with just oscillators, then fades in instruments with samples of synth ensembles to thicken things further.  The same progression of cutoff, resonance, and drive is then explored.

No effects were used at any time.  The apparent room ambiance in the second section is a recording of the room in which the sampled synth ensemble was played.

This quick demo track is intended to showcase the VCO Pack of samples for Sequential's Prophet X.  If you have the instrument, head on over to Sequential's official forum to find my post about where to download the samples.

The opening drone and pad consists of a dual saw + square from the Moog Voyager layered on a Fast PWM oscillator from the Dreadbox Erebus plus a supersaw from the Prophet X oscillator.  There’s some LFO induced instability during the attack that fades out quickly, and a sample/hold random sine wave drifting around subtly that emerges only in the release.  All of this in a single program.

The percussive bass that enters next is a pair of Behringer Neutron samples, square and triangle without any additional oscillators.  Just filter and amplitude envelopes and not much else.

The drums I sampled from my Roland R-8M (not included in the pack, sorry!) so I could do everything on the Prophet X.  They also feature the only reverb in the demo, utilizing the Super Plate for some spaciousness along with a resonant high pass filter to beef up the kick.

The final bass featuring some glissando with different rates on several elements is a combination of the Erebus Square and Sequential OB-6 Saw PWM waves along with Prophet X saw and square for some over-the-top thickness.  A touch of chorus and the same high-pass filtering trick used on the drums help spice it up further.

Kurzweil Forte - Brief Piano Clip

Simple showcase of using the Kurzweil Forte v4's FM synthesis with a variety of KDFX effects.  In order:
- Five octaves of the core FM sound.  Nothing special, but this remains unchanged through the demos to follow.
- The same sound with a gated Laserverb applied.
- The same sound again with an amp simulator used to add distortion.
- The same sound one last time, with slow modulation applied to a phased delay chain and reverb.  The same key is played several time in succession to show the variation over time.
