HOW DO WE KNOW?: PROMISES, COVENANT, AND REVELATION

We all want certainty. How can we know that God will fulfill his promises? God wants us to have certainty. He draws us into intimacy with Him. He established covenants. When Jesus took Peter, James, and John up on the mountain she revealed a glimpse of his divine glory. In Jesus Christ God established a new and eternal covenant. We enter into the covenant through faith, baptism, and the Holy Eucharist. The passion of the cross leads to the glory of the resurrection!

SATAN IS REAL AND HE WANTS YOU TO LOSE YOUR SOUL

Our readings today show us that human beings have been, from the very beginning, enmeshed in spiritual combat. The angels, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and all of the saints want us to have heaven, salvation, and communion with God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Satan and the demons want us to lose our souls--to get lost in sin, darkness, evil, damnation--hell. Angels are real. Satan and the other demons are real. Temptation is real. We have to know that this spiritual battle rages. We have to know that the stakes our high (our salvation!). Jesus Christ came to liberate us from the Kingdom of darkness, but we must freely embrace the salvation that he offers. Jesus submitted himself to temptation and defeated the Enemy. He was obedient unto death on the cross and he wants us to share in his victory. But first we must go through trials in this world. We must identify temptation and the lies of the devil and rebuke the devil with the truth of God's holy word.
