Conventional chondrosarcoma is a common sarcoma of bone. It is a common sarcoma and affects adults. It can mimic or arise from benign tumors, and in some cases it is associated with familial or hereditary links. Episode 3: Chondrosarcoma

We discuss enchondromas with Dr. Alysia Kemp. Enchondromas are benign cartilaginous tumors that occur within bone. Enchondromas can be difficult to differentiate from low grade chondrosarcomas. It is the second most common benign cartilage tumor. They commonly occur in adults and are often incidental findings. They usually do not cause pain, when they do it warrants further examination.

Lipomas are benign tumors of adipose tissue or fat. They are often subcutaneous in nature but vary in size and location. Atypical Lipomatous tumors also known as well differentiated liposarcomas are tumors of fat with low metastatic and malignant potential. In this episode we discuss benign bone cysts.  Unicameral Bone cysts also known as UBCs and Aneurysmal bone cysts also known as ABCs. 

Unicameral bone cysts are simple bone cysts that occur in children and young adults with a predilection for the metaphyseal region of the bone. They are often found incidentally but can also lead to a fracture of the weakened bone. 

Aneurysmal bone cysts are blood filled cysts that cause pain, they also occur in children and young adult with a predilection for the metaphyseal region. They can cause pain and sometimes mimic other entities.

Synovial Sarcomas are rare malignant tumors of soft tissue. Unlike most soft tissue sarcomas they are more likely to affect younger individuals. This tumor type is unique because of a common chromosomal translocation and mutation. They also have a high predilection of metastasis to lung and to the lymph nodes.

Episode 21: Metastatic Bone Disease

The rarity and uniqueness of each individuals case make research in orthopaedic oncology and sarcoma challenging. The Musculoskeletal Tumor Registry (MsTR) is taking this on, led by Dr. Benjamin Miller and program manager Atusa Moreno. The MsTr is an orthopaedic oncological diagnosis-based registry developed in partnership with the Musculoskeletal Tumor Society (MSTS). The goal of the registry is to capture data on orthopaedic oncology, specifically bone and soft tissue tumor procedures, in a structured and scalable way. Janet's Daughter was diagnosed with osteosarcoma at the age of 12 and going through the process with her daughter inspired Janet to do more for sarcoma patients. She obtained a PhD and has worked since then to help and educate other families going through a sarcoma diagnosis.  We discuss her amazing journey from diagnosis to present.

Episode 29: Giant Cell Tumor of Bone

Giant cell tumor of tendon sheath as well as tenosynovial giant cell tumors are similar appearing tumors on imaging and pathology that occur in different parts of the body. TGCT occurs within joints particularly the knee and the tendon sheath variant occurs along the tendons of the hands and feet.
