How Can I Love You More Excerpt

In response to the recent death of the talented Greek electronic musician and composer Vangelis, I have recorded my interpretation of 'Abraham's Theme' from the soundtrack album 'Chariots of Fire', a piece which I was instantly moved by when I first heard it way back when.

The second of my Tangerine Dream covers - a reworking of the closing section of 'Invisible Limits' from Tangerine Dream's classic 1976 album 'Stratosfear'. The original, reportedly based on Beethoven's 'Moonlight Sonata', was played on grand piano with mellotron flute melodies. My version features polysynth and string chords with guitars generating the melodies and harmonies.

I was asked by my friend Clive Stack to compose some music for a production of 'The Railway Children' he is directing, which will be performed at at The Blackburn Empire Theatre in early March. This is the opening music depicting a busy railway station. A bit different to my usual stuff I think!

After recent listening to and reading about Kraftwerk, I decided to have a go at composing something in their style - simple melodies and harmonies using electronic sounds; scant lyrics with a focus on technological topics and toe-tapping beats - and here it is: 'AI'.

From the Beginning ELP Cover

This is my cover of a wonderful piece, entitled 'Kate, from the film soundtrack 'Full Circle' by Colin Towns, who was, for a time, keyboard player with The Ian Gillan Band. The horror/mystery film starred Mia Farrow and came out in 1977. I borrowed this rare soundtrack album from Paul Nagle, whose record collection was a constant source of inspiration, in 1980 and was hooked on first hearing. I particularly liked this track and. with my limited keyboard skills at the time, managed to work it out. I hope you enjoy my interpretation recorded 40 years later!
