“Piano Trio No. 1” was workshopped and performed by Longleash (Pala Garcia, John Popham, Renate Rohlfing) in residency at the University of Louisville, as part of the Fall 2019 and Fall 2020 iterations of UofL’s New Music Festival.

Timothy Amalavage-Smith (b. 1997) received his BM in Music Composition from the University of Alabama (2019), where he studied with Amir Zaheri, and MM in Composition at the University of Louisville (2021), studying with Marc Satterwhite. Currently, he is revisiting the University of Alabama in order to pursue a DMA in Composition, under the tutelage of Amir Zaheri. He was selected as a winner for the Tennessee Valley Music Festival Composer’s Forum in 2014, had pieces premiered at the Dance Alabama Film Festival where he was awarded the Best Score in 2019, had music featured at the Alabama Screendance Festival in 2020, is the winner of the Huntsville Master Chorale’s 2020 Composition Competition, is the 2021 recipient of the Huang Family Composition Commission, and finished 2nd place in the 2023 American Prize in Shorter Choral Composition. Amalavage-Smith has also had pieces performed by the University of Alabama Singers, Twickenham Winds, Louisville University Symphony Orchestra, the Brass Band of Huntsville, Bama Brass, and the University of Alabama Opera Theatre. His biggest inspirations have always been nature and other art forms.
