The blueprint for the audio-visual piece draws on postcolonial critique regarding themes of race, gender and sexuality with symbolic motifs, albeit cliches and themes, often associated with Orientalism. 

Ideas are based on the concepts from undergraduate courses I have once taught on: ‘Colonial Encounters: Violence, Race and the Making of the Modern World’, and ‘The Art of Film’; alongside that of my completed PhD entitled ‘The Portrayal of the Historical Muslim Female on Screen’.

Hot in the Belly

Unblinkered Media sometimes wanders under the pseudonym guise of Heart Noir. The story of this multi-instrumentalist audio-visual artist's alter ego lies in that of fairy tales. An ancient oracle cast the name Heart Noir with their mystic knowledge on the heart. Her demeanor spoke about love, the words were painted in black as the description of the dark beast’s (bete-noire) heart was conveyed. A creature beckoned… the howling was carried upon a cold cutting breeze enforcing his torment and pain. She followed the howl to find a vagrant soul by an old oak tree over looking the lake from which the lycanthrope drank. Her presence pacified the beast but knew of no ailments to counteract the void where his heart had been stolen by a female hunter and sold for a petty, pretty price.
