"... In 2013 I was asked by my friend Robert Pepper (Pas Musique) if i wanted to do an "unplugged " album. I was intrigued by the idea and agreed. I thought of ways of constructing pieces that did not involve any "processing". I wanted to make something that was essentially acoustic recordings but which were composed and arranged to give some depth and intricacy to them. I started recording some of my many acoustic instruments on a portable stereo digital recorder (A Tascam DR­05..for those interested in such things). The recorder has built in microphones , so I just used those. Sometimes I placed the recorder inside a large Bodhran to get natural reverb reflections. I listened back to the things I had carefully recorded. i listened to them again...they were ok..but something was missing... I added some reverb, delay ..back masking and ....it suddenly sounded fab to me... This album is part acoustic and part processed ..all the recorded parts are live..one take. The treatments and processing are as much a part of composition as are the instruments and the recordings...In a way I failed to make an unplugged album but I did make something which was outside of my usual work process and for that i am thankful. To simply repeat the same processes over and over seems very dull to me. Viva la Difference !

”Hem. Någonstans” is the fourth album of Lau Nau. This time she takes us to the fleeting borderline between contemporary classical and experimental music, true to her idiosyncratic style. The electroacoustical orchestrations of the album pilot the listener through an archipelago of cloud constellations to rest and dream on massive pillows of sound. It’s also clear that Pekko Käppi, the emperor of jouhikko, a Finnish traditional string instrument, has left his mark on the album by playing all the string arrangements.

Except one song, ”Hem. Någonstans” is an instrumental album and rare of it’s kind: it’s a soundtrack album to a similarily named documentary film by Lotta Petronella (”Home. Somewhere”, Fisher King Productions 2015). Think of an action film that takes place in a far away archipelago, but where most of the action happens inside the minds of the characters. In addition to the tree main characters of the film, Lau Nau’s music arises as the fourth character of the film. It’s born with a soul.

The NYC-via-Kansas producer Brian Leeds (Huerco S), known for his distinctly murky productions, returns to Anthony Naples' Proibito imprint with a brilliant full-length release of dense meditative ambiance. A marked move away from Leeds' house music ventures, For Those of You Who Have Never (And Also Those That Have) is an intensely cerebral experience, sparking raw emotions throughout.

Our pick of the bunch is "Promises of Fertility". Seven blissful minutes of softly smudged chords lay the foundation for an innocent melody that beams you into a world of mystical sounds and fantasy.

Ólafur Arnalds' song 'Allt varð hljótt' from his 2009 'Found Songs' EP, is featured in the recent box office hit 'The Hunger Games' (#3 biggest weekend opening in the US) directed by Gary Ross and starring Jennifer Lawrence.

Lionsgate has now released the production notes for 'The Hunger Games', which includes the final lineup of music played during the film. Pieces of modern orchestral and electroacoustic music on the score include “Sediment” by Laurie Spiegel, “Three Movements for Orchestra, Mvt. 1″ by Steve Reich and "Allt varð hljótt" by Ólafur Arnalds.

Ellicist are Thomas Chousos & Florian Zimmer. Chousos studied composition in Greece before moving to Berlin, where he is working as a producer and sound engineer under the moniker Tadklimp. While not a new solo album, per se, the long form, Eno-like results of ‘Futuro’ demonstrate the full wingspan of Not Waving’s obsessive knowledge and emotive feel for electronic composition, making it in some senses one of the more substantial and unusual releases in his catalogue to date.

Two countries, two cities, one river. The Oder River not only separates the German city of Frankfurt from Slubice in Poland, it separates two different worlds from each other. Whether rich or poor, people try to seek their fortune there – but often only find their limits.

Hans-Christian-Schmid („Nach fünf im Urwald“, „23“, Crazy“), one of the most successful and exciting young German directors, made a moving film with an impressive ensemble, telling emotional, deeply human stories, subtle and moving, tough and yet full of poetry.

Notwist composed the music for this film, based on a pianoloop and minimal electronics, and recorded it with participation of Sebastian Hess (cello) and Saam Schlamminger (zarb). For the twelve-inch release the piece was remixed by Martin Gretschmann aka Console.
