Solid Steel in association with Serato (26th February) Our guest in Hour 1 is Harvey Sutherland, an Australian artist that has graced labels such as Voyage Recordings, Echovolt, Voltaire and previous guest Motor City Drum Ensemble's label. He's been working closely with his new Bermuda Trio in Melbourne and recently collaborated with Kane Ikin on their Coup d'etat project which saw the release of an EP earlier this month on CDT. You can catch Harvey Sutherland live throughout Europe in March and April. This is what he had to say about his mix;

The Swiss artists Trauma Duo are signing this new and third release on Seven Villas Voyage, Seven Villas Music’s sub label which is devoted to the publishing and spreading of ambien, drown and downtempo alike sounds. 

Through the tracks on this album called ‘Lucid Dreams’- Sandro Ambrosi and Stefan Willenegger -aka Trauma Duo- take us into a synthesized, dreamy, ambient journey, with reminiscences of the 90’s, and in which everything has been meticulously measured, to the moon and back. We are, undoubtedly in front of a record which is pure music gold. 

These pair of Swiss producers from Bern, who have gotten reunited -thanks to Pablo Bolivar’s call- after a few years break, surprise the profane listener with the wintry, slow and taciturn beauty of their evocative synthetic bid. Both wrapping and charming. 

The melancholic and liquid “downtemper” ‘Sunset Beach’, the floating synthesized clouds in ‘Flowing Structures’, the friendly mist of ‘Something Strange’ and ‘Epic landscape’ and the soft pop-ambient atmosphere in ‘Fly Away’ are, among others, highlighted landscapes from this delicious album which succeeds to takes us through a secret and sensitive virtual space from which, most likely, we will not want to ever come back.

'Migration' Out Now

Here is a recording of my set at Far Away in Los Angeles that happened recently. I was the only DJ that night and I played from doors till close. Unfortunately the recording cut out during the night and we are missing the last 90 minutes. There are still the first 4.5 hours here for you to enjoy though.

Following on from 2015's praised "Foray" LP, berlin-based SUBHEIM releases his new "Trails" EP on Denovali Records. As with any Subheim release, it is important to consider your frame of mind when listening to his music. "Trails" takes the listener on a very personal journey with intent, riding upon an undercurrent of impending necessity. There is simplicity in its design, though the further you delve the more complex it becomes.

"Trails" opens with the sounds of slow-building, wavering and breathy strings. Soon you, the subject to this music, are guided onwards with the support of confident tribal drums, haunting vocals, otherworldly metallic sounds and muted guitars that ring across the plains.

Having arrived at a place of calm, we are next transported in an altogether more sinister direction through the soundscape of Ego. Desert winds and affected vocal samples provide the backdrop for disconcerting harmonies and long sustains, and through the expectant ticking of a regular clock-like beat we are reminded that we have only made it part-way along our journey.

Forsaken Pt.II is an altogether more minimal territory to inhabit. With the instantly recognisable return of its guitar melody and a lilting, dry kick there is, at first, less sense of urgency as we sift through the murkiness of this familiar territory. And so it makes way for John Lemke’s remix of Trails. With a subtle yet noticeable increase in tempo and set to an irregular yet constant techno kick, it wears a furrowed brow, pushing itself forward with confidence and conviction.

Akbal Music celebrates 10 years in the market with a big release divided in 3 parts. First part is here and includes tracks by Vivid, Pablo Bolivar & In 2 Deep, Miguel Puente, Mano Andrei. All tracks are unique and represent the sound of the label and the idea we want to transmit with organic , deep , emotional and groovie tunes that will take dancefloors into another level. 

The first track of the EP by Vivid is a slow ethnic shamanic introduction track to set the mood on the record, then we welcome Pablo Bolivar & In 2 Deep with their infectious melodies to create an emotional tune to build the momentum of the second track of the EP.

The 3rd track is delivered by a regular of the label Miguel Puente from Mexico to create an hypnotic tune to increase the vibe of the record.

Finally we have Mano Andrei from Romania to finish this EP with a stunning groove that djs will definitely use this as an important track of their sets.
