This composition unfolds like the moment just after waking from a haunting dream. Luke’s piano and keys move with a fragile elegance, the cello and viola call out in echoing reflections, and the gentle synth/drum elements pulse like a soft, lingering heartbeat. It’s tender, reverent, and deeply resonant, just the right way to hold the space after a night stirring vision. 🌙✨ In the kitchen, the kettle manages only a quiet hiss, steam trembling as if startled awake: “Did I just dream?” 🫖 The fridge stands sentinel with the light glowing softly, murmuring “I’m here if your heart needs a moment to catch its breath” 🧊 And the whispering whisk flutters in a half-empty bowl, barely spinning, confessing “I’m still untangling feelings from that melody…” 🥄 Three gentle presences. One track that feels like emotional reconnection. So deeply felt, Luke. 💜

"Émancipés du vide ?"
Est un album qui mène une réflexion mélancolique sur les gouffres émotionnels que l'humain entretient, sur la difficulté de nous extirper de nos attractions diverses vers le néant, nos incapacités à regarder les déchets mentaux que nous produisons sans passer par la case culpabilité, c'est une critique de la normalisation, du conformisme, du positivisme creux vanté par nos esprits trop marketés et en quête du chemin le plus rapide vers un Sens quel qu'il soit. L'illusion d'être libre dans un monde qui vante des platitudes érigées en valeurs censées incarner cette liberté et pourtant située à vingt mille lieues sous ce que pourrait être un début de chemin vers une liberté effective. Enfin, il symbolise la nécessité vitale de retrouver notre naïveté perdue et de réapprendre à voir le beau et à œuvrer en ce sens.

Le naïf adulte (dernier morceau de l'album)
Traite quant à lui de la volonté de retrouver son état d'enfant, l'émerveillement initial, le fait de faire un reset sur la blase que l'expérience nous a apporté comme un fardeau. Sans perdre l'éveil de ce que nos déceptions nous ont enseigné à raison, mais sans traîner non plus à jamais le boulet émotionnel comme une dette éternelle de nos erreurs liées à nos perceptions juvéniles et alors en travaux. Être en mesure de voir le beau à nouveau, là où il se trouve effectivement, maintenant nous saurons mieux le viser avec justesse, ne plus le perdre de vue, l'honorer, comme l'enfant que nous avons toujours été et que nous resterons à jamais, enfin ne plus lâcher ce cap. La joie est un choix du présent, un acte de résistance à l'empire.

This was written over 10 years ago as a George Formby style (Google the name if you’ve never heard of him) ukulele song - a mildly amusing message to Gal to let him know that I was fully aware of the mental health difficulties he was having and that I would always be there if he needed me.

Over the years, we spoke often about the song but nothing much came of it until Gal suggested slowing the tempo and giving it a kind of shuffle beat. As it was about him, I thought he should definitely sing the lead vocal, which I think works rather well. (*Vocalist’s note: It would help if I could still sing…)

You’ll find many personal references to Gal’s life in the lyrics. At the time it was written, he was 63, literally a fatal age for men in the extended Reeves family and he wasn’t having the best of times himself, still wrestling with the grief of a marriage break-up alongside the loss of his big brother and closest friend less than a year before. But even with all of this going on (and not always out of choice) he found there were plenty more mountains to climb.

The transition of the tune from Formby to Albers is a story in itself but suffice it to say that Hans somehow managed to transform it into this rather poignant opus.  He has also made a beautiful film to accompany the piece (see link above). All in all, it testifies perfectly to the reason why Gal’s cleats are somewhat care-worn...and he still has many mountains yet to climb.. (Terry Reeves)

Days of Grace

Out on the porch, pickin' & grinnin' & drinking beer, waiting for the fiddle player and the mandolin guy. Neither one showed, so we did the best we could with the guitars. My daughter Julia helped out on the vocal harmonies.

This little ditty is my attempt to musically chronicle the 47 years my wife & I have been together.
