And so it begins
A blank page & a new ink pen.
You wake up and you try again.
A quiet prayer before a meal
You turn the key behind the wheel.

Are you anxious or excited holding breath?
You can’t believe you haven’t done this yet.

You walk cap and ground across the stage.
A conductor raises their baton.
You flip the switch and turn it on.

Is there tension in your shoulders or your jaw?
Are you ready for what you dreamed of for so long?

And so it begins.
You open eyes at break of day 
A chicken lays a brand new egg.
You sign a legal document. 
A letter finally is sent.
And so it begins.

All you have to do is take a step.
The momentum of that choice will lead you to the next.

A gunshot at the starting line.
You meet her gaze for the first time
A seed pokes leaves up through the dirt.
You say yes afraid of getting hurt.

it hit me like a steam train I could see a mile away

in the desert on my own
I cut my hair, I bought new dresses
I'm still learning to live alone
