The original track evokes the emotion of being from the distant past, and I thought that it would be fitting to suggest this by using baroque instruments. Using an alto recorder and a lute in my tracks is a first for me, but it feels right. Boys' choir samples were used to balance the sensual lead vocal.

I suck at drums so you will note that the beats are boring. I need to work on that, but I don't know where my original files are as I upgraded my computer and might have accidentally trashed the originals. Pretty much everything is original material - I just used Amethystium's vocal tracks as some of their sfx, that's about it!

Just as the sun returns to the Northern Hemisphere, Joachim Pastor get’s his Fixi road ready and takes us on a musical trip. Three free floating creations full of musical euphoria and funk filled grooves await! 

Starting off with the carefree “Fixi” track, which is based around a gently played acoustic guitar melody. Spheric effect work escorts feathery pads and strings, while the 4/4 house beat and thumping bassline keep things moving forward on the dancefloor.

Next up is the dreamy “Laos” song. Laid-back, slightly distorted synth and percussion sounds build smooth tension. The energy is fielded by a bright string section and completed by a mellow Marimba melody. 

Joachim is closing of this superb EP with the broken beat anthem “The Same”. A breathtaking field of panoramic sounds evolve over the course of four minutes. Pastor experiments with other worldly vocals and tight broken beats. Pure bliss!

A standout track in the Frenchmen’s captivating live sets over the past 12 months, ‘Chain Reaction’ finally drops after highlighting performances everywhere from Paradise at DC10 to Oasis Festival in Marrakesh. 

Led by an infectious hook-laden bassline crafted with the artists’ beloved MOOG Voyager, the track has been an evolving work in progress over months of tireless gigs and studio sessions, as layers of deep pads and effects have progressively been added to create this plump, rumbling beauty. 

The key to Rodriguez Jr.’s production is the ying and yang contrasts to his sonic aesthetic; on one hand they’re fiercely functional and deadly effective on the dancefloor, while on the other, their natural hook-driven characteristics mean they’re remembered long after the first play. 

‘Two Miles Away’ epitomizes this approach; a dizzyingly beautiful melodic gem that feels at once like it was custom-made to soundtrack a morning set, while its subtle toe-curling key change makes it a distinctive addition to his back catalogue. 

Of the track, Rodriguez Jr. says: “It was written and recorded in one night. I was just jamming on the Moog synthesizer and trying to do something with a solid drive, without losing a strong emotional side. It’s been inspiring to record in this spontaneous way, without thinking about the final result and just record in the moment.”
