Debut single from Virgins. 
Virgins are a Belfast based shoegaze band comprised of Michael Smyth and Brook-Valentine Lorimer. Virgins were born after a lust to satiate a musical thirst. Michael is responsible for the instrumentation, song writing, the lyrics and melodies. Having known Brook from the hedonistic days of youth, a chance encounter brought them together again. Michael asked Brook to join and now they form the core of the band.
Vows is an ethereal warning against being coerced into actions simply to appease the needs and wants of others when these couldn't be any further from your own desires. Like being warned in a weightless dream, through a haze of colour and smoke. Then trying to retain that knowledge when you awaken in your own hazy reality. Musically, the track is equally dense and beautiful, Guitars drenched in layers of fuzz and reverb create an impenetrable wall of sound. Brooks vocals are a whisper in your ear of a long forgotten ghost laden with regret, melancholia and a desire to return to a more innocent time.
Jonny Woods of Wynona Bleach recorded and produced the track. Even joining the band on bass for the recording.

Vows

Opening with swathes of choral shimmering reverb and an ethereal haunting vocal ‘Signalling’ marks the first single taken from Virgins upcoming debut EP ‘Transmit A Little Heaven’. This initial dreamy intro gives way to a grungier riff that wouldn’t be out of place on any 90’s Sub Pop record. Virgins alchemy comes in marrying these juxtaposing elements together to create a sound that in equal parts wraps you in clouds of ambient washed out reverbs while simultaneously keeping your head nodding along with fuzzed out guitars and hammering drums. Lyrically ‘Signalling’ is a wanton cry for more, of trying to fill an unending void and the frustrations found within that insatiable desire. This coupled with the impending inevitability that there is a permanent and definitive end for everything and the knowledge that this will come unsatiated. This against a layered back drop of dense and beautiful guitars that are drenched in fuzz and reverbs, dovetailing between creating a dense melting wall of sound to beautiful shimmering passages. The vocals are a whisper in your ear from a long forgotten ghost laden with regret, melancholia and a desire to return to a more innocent time.

‘Transmit A Little Heaven’ will be released by Blowtorch Records on October 14th on a limited pressing of 200 pink vinyl,  pre-orders beginning September 3rd through Blowtorch Records and Virgins Bandcamp page. The band will embark on a 6 date UK tour in November in support of the release and will be joined by Wynona Bleach for these dates.

Following on from the success of their highly acclaimed debut album ‘nothing hurt and everything was beautiful’, Belfast shoegazers Virgins return with the release of their new single 'b l o o m s'. On ‘b l o o m s’, the band redefine their sound while exploring new emotional depths and expanding their sonic palette. Shimmering verses explode into swirling choruses, accented by reverse delays and glide guitar. The euphoria inducing crescendo of fuzz and siren vocals releases the pressure valve of tension cultivated throughout the track. The band worked with acclaimed producer Simon Francis (Kylie Minogue, Ellie Goulding, The Japanese House) to capture the track and for mastering turned to one of shoegaze greats Simon Scott of Slowdive. Virgins trade mark sound doesn't rely on genre tropes but brings a contemporary take to shoegaze, as walls of gargantuan fuzz, euphoric shimmering guitar leads and ethereal vocals guide the listener through the hazy sanctuary.
