Imagination Does Not Exist (Joachim Brackx)

Soprano, composer, and poet, Laurence Servaes has quickly become one of Belgium’s most exciting and enchanting exports. Born in Antwerp, studied at the Royal Brussels Conservatory and at London’s Royal College of Music.

As an absolute admirer of early music, Laurence has performed as a soloist with several renowned groups and conductors all over Europe, including J.S. Bach’s works with Akademie Für Alte Musik Berlin, C.P.E. Bach's Magnificat with the NFM Leopoldinum Orkiestry Kameralnej at the Berliner Philharmonie, J.S. Bach's Christmas Oratorio with the Lautten Compagney Berlin, Mozart’s Davide Penitente with Sigiswald Kuijken,  J.S. Bach's St. John Passion with Aspetti Musicali, Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater and G.P. Telemann’s St. Luke Passion with Michael Scheck, Mozart Arias with the European Philharmonia Orchestra as well as a concert series with several of J.S. Bach’s works conducted by Paul Agnew. 

She has also become a much sought-after soprano for new operas and concert pieces. Recently she sang the role of The Nurse in the contemporary opera Shell Shock by N. Lens at the Philharmonie de Paris, she originated the role of Della in E. Whitacre's chamber opera The Gift of the Magi in Los Angeles's Disney Hall and on stage at Carnegie Hall, and she premiered Juliette in Paternel by F. Nuyts and Romy in Elle est moi und töte mich by J. Blanckaert.

In Los Angeles — where she is currently based — Laurence has created a popular series of Art Song Soirées, singing Chansons of the French impressionists and German romantic Lied repertoire, as well as her own art songs and songs set to her poetry by other composers. 

As a guest professor, Laurence taught Lied Master Classes at Chapman University and at the California State University Northridge.

Laurence composed Art Songs and music for Vocal Ensembles such as MezzzoTrio Berlin, Bouche B, Choeur43 Paris and has written arrangements for the Flemish Radio Choir.
