As a young boy I was given a masc.
I didn't know what it was, and I didn't understand why I received it. But I didn't question it -- none of us did.
But I got older, and I learned what it meant, what it represents, what it causes. I studied the masc and I saw how it teaches hate and uses fear to stay on our faces. It makes me who I am. There was a time when I wanted to destroy that.
But through my hatred of the masc I realized what it gave me: a voice, power, opportunity. I was ashamed but I couldn't deny that it was crucial to my life.
Many of us never realize we have a masc on. Some of us know, but we don't care. Some of us hate it, and try desperately to get rid of it.
I've been at those stages, and I still go through those phases everyday. I always will. But now I know what I have to do.
I will use the masc to denounce its own evils.
To amplify voices of the unheard.
I will use it to show what the masc has done and what it can do.
Because I will not be a wasted opportunity.
I will point out the fallacies.
I will use my voice for what's right.
