Composition – The Eclectic Collective

This song began as a haunting guitar chord progression that Tez came up with and shared with the rest of us. He also did an additional accoustic accompaniment and that crunchy distorted guitar once some of us started adding parts. Ken was first up, adding his reggae-tinged drums, then later his pots and pans percussion. As he was doing that, Josh was coming up with his bass line, and they did their little dance of back and forth until the rhythm section was set. Mark then came up with some dark lyrics and added his unique, Tom Waitsian vocals. He also added the high organ during the banjo solo, followed by a toy piano which you can faintly hear right after the solo. Also for the solo he created a clanky percussion arrangement, blending in elements from Ken's percussion sound too. Stephen followed shortly after with the atmospheric reggae-style guitar chords, and also came up with the amazing banjo solo you hear around the middle. Last, but not least, JJ came in with his trademark organ sound and paired up a piano and flute track to seal the deal with some melodic ambience. Then he and Mark added the cool creaking door & rain storm effects that open and close the song, and in other spots. Mark filled the main production duties on this one. He has proved himself to be a masterful editor, producer, and mixer, and we are lucky to have him as part of the team. Both Ken & Stephen provided a choice of mastering options to choose from… a nice gesture to put a bow on this one. 
This song is an homage of sorts to the great Tom Waits - we're all big fans, and tried to do something in his unique style. We hope you enjoy listening to this as much as we enjoyed creating it.

Bill as a very creative musician and competent producer added his magical synth sounds to my guitar part and bass line! He then took care of the production and mixing of the song. This is a song that Frans wrote, recorded, and gave to Josh to share with the Eclectic Collective. Frans is playing all the foundational instruments of the incredibly intricate yet perfectly foundational rhythm section, including Fender electric bass, Roland synthesizer bass, Gibson SG electric guitar rhythm, Godin electric guitar slide background, trumpet background, horn section, including alto, tenor, and baritone saxophones, Gibson 335 electric guitar background rhythm, a full set drum kit, percussion, cowbell, and tambourine. All of Frans's music is a dazzling display of solo work on top of a dense, rock solid rhythm section. So, in that spirit, this song is a display of all of us taking 12 bars to show what we can do.
  Tez was first to add his expert blues guitar in the section right after the opening vocals. Josh took the next slot, with the notey second guitar solo on the first chorus section. Stephen added his fiery guitar next, in the last teo slots, after the second verse. JJ was next in line, though, bringing his piano and organ to the mix, both in a support role throughout, and in the piano solo between Josh's solo and the second verse. Ken, then came up with some lyrics and sung the whole thing for us, very ably and in the propper spirit of the song (which was named randomly by Frans). 
  Of course, every great song needs a great producer, and we tapped Stephen to do the honors here, as he's our resident expert producer. 
  We are all honored and very grateful to Frans, whom we all respect and admire to a very high degree, for sharing this with us. Hello, Everyone! Do you like surf rock? Do you like the soundtrack from „Pulp Fiction” and „Kill Bill”? I try to combine surf rock with other styles of music: with indie, psychedelic, space rock, ambient, electronica…

I co-found a duo with my friend from Sweden, Håkan (WELL ) on synthesisers. We have recorded several tracks together, which you can easily find on my profile and on WELL's profile. Another notable one is the project with my friend from Kansas City - Nathaniel Ehrnman. Together we created a quiet track called "Good Days”. A short time later, another project followed: "Between Us”. Bill Brooks (Remnant60) added his synthesizers to my guitar part and also took care of the production of this song! This is how the combination of surf music with electronica came about. 🌔
Our next collaborative piece between Bill Brooks and myself is titled: „Things Change”. Bill added his synths and bass to my guitar track and also took care of the production and mixing. The end result is available on our profiles! 😎
