January 5, 2023

This past summer to prepare for making solo sounds for dancers (beloved companions Andy and Shawn), I spent a large portion of each day playing saxophone in a tunnel in Prospect Park (or if it was already taken somewhere nearby). Sometimes I recorded the sessions, sometimes I didn’t. These were times to work through stale ideas, create new ones, and find spaces of novelty within tired patterns. In many ways, I think I was learning and listening more closely to what it is I am actually trying to communicate through this weird piece of plumbing during all these years.  

Time in NY - surrounded by so much brilliance and so much sound - challenged me to really explore this horn-brain-decaying body-historicalsocial conjucture and this is one snippet of an intense time of that.  

It feels vulnerable, putting all this raw/unedited saxo slop into the world, but I’m also proud of all the little slivers of creation, sensitivity, playing in and with all of the surrounding movement-sounds, the magical dance of the late afternoon park. 

One part of one afternoon session in August, an artifact of study, and a small reminder to keep listening and playing. 

DJ PECUECA hopped on and lightly mixed in some found sound-rhythms from the same time period. 

More library music for the nerds. 

Soul music.
