With regards to the King George, we hear from Barry Mahon, Juddmonte's racing manager regarding favourite, Westover, and Torquator Tasso's assistant trainer Julia Romich.
Anthea Leigh, Cartmel's clerk of the course discusses the measures they have in place to keep the horses cool at this afternoon's fixture and finally Adrian O'Brien of Hazelwood Bloodstock reflects on the recent Grade 1 victories of two fillies his operation consigned at Tattersalls Book 1.

Tom is joined by broadcaster and journalist Rishi Persad who wants to immediately reflect on the performance of Sir Michael Stoute’s Nostrum at Sandown yesterday and we have news from assistant trainer James Savage on the colt. Joseph O’Brien joins us from Saratoga where he sends out his first runners this weekend. He also reflects on a double last night at Leopardstown including a first European winner for My Racehorse and he confirms plans for stable star State Of Rest. Rishi and Tom touch on tomorrow’s King George at Ascot and also look ahead to the Qatar Sussex Stakes next week at Goodwood. And with the Go Racing in Yorkshire Summer Festival drawing to a closer this weekend, Charlotte Russel is along to tell us more about the event.

This lengthy single track, just under an hours and 45 minutes in duration, was compiled by Tobias Reber from the work of 54 participants in a summer 2022 collaboration between Musikfestival Bern and the Disquiet Junto music community. Contributors were invited to make drones based on a shared single chord from a John Cage composition. More details at disquiet.com/0554.

We don’t do a lot of this sort of thing (by which I mean a post-project compilation), in large part because I never want Junto participants to feel like they need to complete a piece before posting it, and in part because external overarching editorial consideration — as is necessary for a compilation like this — is also something I don’t want someone thinking about as they produce tracks for the Junto. But that said, the projects with Musikfestival Bern are unique ones, and part of the announced plan from the start was some tracks may be selected for playing during part of the festival. This excellent compilation is one expression of that plan. Many thanks to Tobias for having executed this compilation.

Resonant Range (disquiet0595)

I had started out with the assignment yesterday… today, I re-read the instructions and found that I might have been on a wrong track. Is it 0-40-60-0 of overall volume? Or the ratio of sound to silence in the overall piece? 

Not being totally sure about this, I started to carve out bits and pieces from the track. I removed most of the underlying drone, dimmed it down to 40 percent maximum, cut off reverb tails, removed some notes, trying to get the „guitar“ part in front.

Disquiet Junto Project 0607: Silence Wave 

The Assignment: From close to zero and back again, alter the relative amount of sound to silence in a piece of music.

There’s just one step to this project:

Compose a piece of music in which the relative amount of sound to silence starts at zero (that is, no sound), rises to approximately 40 percent (that is, 60 percent silent) and returns to zero again. Keep the pace fairly steady.

Background: This project builds on the two previous ones. You needn’t have done them; do give them some consideration. In the first of the two, each participant composed a piece of music with as much silence as notes. In the second, each composed a piece of music with three times as much silence as sound. Jason Richardson proposed the first project in what has since become a sequence. As that project unfolded, Klaus-Dieter Hilf (aka RabMusicLab) commented that maybe the instruction should have read “sound” in place of “notes.” Since the first project went well, a subsequent project increased the amount of silence, and implemented Hilf’s proposal. This project takes it a step further still.

Dr. Paige Hochschild is a professor of historical and systematic theology at Mount St. Mary's University (MD), specializing in Augustine, Thomas Aquinas, and the early Church. She also teaches philosophy courses at the Seminary at Mount St. Mary's. She has written a book on the place of memory in Augustine's theological anthropology and publishes on the Church, education, tradition, 20th c. theological debates within the Church (Scripture, history; marriage).
