Maurice Johnstone, born in Manchester and composed a number of works for Brass Band as well as for orchestra etc. His most well known work for band would probably be 'County Palatine', a march used by the CWS (Manchester) Band as their signature tune. He also wrote the concert overture 'Sea Dogs' depicting those great days of sail.
This is a live contest recording, possibly early 60's perhaps, the band is Towcester Studio from Northamptonshire and the conductor probably William Scholes but no other details available.
