Released in 1968, Open My Eyes by Nazz is a prominent example of tape flanging. The song was a major inspiration to a couple of young men who, in 1971, went on to found Eventide and create the world’s first pro audio effects box, the Instant Phaser. This version of the song features the new Instant Phaser Mk II and Instant Flanger Mk II plug-ins available for AAX, VST and AU.

Eventide Audio created this contest: They covered Nazz - OpenYour Eyes written by Todd Rundgren. "Remix this in any way, creative or traditional, but use at least the Instant Flanger or Instant Phaser." I used both.
I choose the traditional way; to create a 'perfect' mix.

[UPDATE]: The jury choose my mix as the best 'traditional'-version.
I'm so happy ;-)

- claps moved 30 msec back in time (claps fx not)
- most tracks highpass filtered
- no conga's used (cluttered the mix)
- some volume/effect automation
- de-essing a bit (highs in the mix became a little too much)

Having surfaced last year from the Western Australian coastline, Good Company Records provided two of the most defining records of 2015 with Hugo Gerani aka Eleventeen Eston and Phil Stroud's debut EPs. The imprint is back on good form with yet another newcoming act going by the name of Long Body, comprised of Timo L and Deni Deni. The "Hi Vibe" EP starts up with a playful and light-hearted opener, "On A Big Trip", where analog bass, Larry Heard style piano, marimba and jungle noises interweave to create a refreshing and exotic slice of house. Japan’s Nobuyuki Sakuma is a prolific artist; formerly of the Jesse Ruins duo on the Captured Tracks label, he now shifts time between his electronic music project CVN, curating the mix series Grey Matter Archives, and chief editor duties at Avyss Magazine. “i.c.” will be his second album for Orange Milk as CVN, and it is an eclectic hybrid of beat music and abstract electronics. There is a searching quality in his music, with leaps in variation from track to track that are meant to elicit the mutating feelings of walking through Tokyo.

The first track 成分 Seibun is a calm pop song featuring Japanese vocalist NTsKi, and feels like an initial encounter with nocturnal cityscapes. As the album progresses a stranger Japanese electronic music culture begins to emerge, referencing artists like good friend Foodman and label partner Koeosaeme with irreverent assertions of anti-genre music making. Tracks like “Snippets of Heaven” are reminiscent of music on the labels PAN or Halcyon Veil, cryptic and sparse with random industrial beats and scraping metal. “舌下 (Karaoke)” is a more forlorn piece with straightforward rhythm and deeply effecting use of repetition. Sakuma states that he lets mood dominate his track making and does not care if this transitioning emotion fits into a cohesive style. The skill of harnessing the random nature of each tracks aesthetic is impressive, resulting in an exciting record that faithfully documents its creators place and time.

“Eye Contact” is the World’s first look at Detroit’s Symptoms of Love. Ryan Spencer (of Freakish Pleasures) and Ben Christensen (co-head of Sector 7G) display affection for their community through 3 tracks crafted in Hamtramck, Michigan. Auxiliary percussion and a plethora of classic synths makeup these sludgy, intuitive, melody saturated disco hits. Sticking with the theme of community, featured musicians include Antonio Manzari and Paul Taylor.
