Norwegian duo Darkthrone return with their first new studio material since 2013’s triumphant ‘The Underground Resistance’; the album becoming the band’s most successful release in recent years. A new heavy metal odyssey now awaits as Fenriz and Nocturno Culto once more show their mastery of “the riff”, demonstrating why Darkthrone remain one of the most respected and enduring acts in the history of extreme metal.

An eclectic mix of free-spirited 80’s fuelled blackened heavy metal, all executed in Darkthrone's trademark raw & organic style, ‘Arctic Thunder’ was recorded & produced by the band themselves, with the sessions conducted at Darkthrone’s old rehearsal unit, "The Bomb Shelter", which they had originally used between 1988-1990. 

With themes based around hate, contempt, & the inner mind & soul, & with the notable presence of Nocturno Culto on vocal duties across all songs for the first time in recent years, 'Arctic Thunder' retains a grim atmosphere, with a healthy dose of raw black metal inspired riffing permeating the album's 8 tracks.

Mastering is once again handled by Jack Control at Enormous Door.

Darkthrone began in the late 80's as a thrash/death metal act & progressed through technical death/doom metal experimentation to become legends of the black metal world & one of the original leading bands of the Norwegian scene, as well as inspiring a whole generation of metal bands.

THE CULT 1992 RELEASE OF BLACK/VIKING METAL FROM THE GRAMMY-AWARD-WINNING NORWEGIAN PIONEERS, NOW ON PEACEVILLE.    

Enslaved was formed by Ivar Bjørnson and Grutle Kjellson in 1991, and are based in Bergen, Norway. Ivar and Grutle had previously played together in the death metal band, Phobia. Taking a different route to many of the extreme metal Norwegian bands of the early 90’s, Enslaved embraced their Viking history and culture, composing ferocious epics of extreme metal combined with hypnotic riffs and repetitious structures; Enslaved even becoming signed to Euronymous’ Deathlike Silence label early in their career.

  ‘Yggdrasill’ was the band’s second demo (following 1991’s feet-finding ‘Nema’), showing a young band with great passion and creativity. The songs were understandably raw and contained some traits of the Norwegian wave of black metal sweeping the region at the time, along with their own individual touch. Although more focused on Viking/Norwegian lore than anything satanic, Enslaved’s signature sound still captured the magic of the genre with long, hypnotic compositions losing the listener within their vast sonic landscapes.  

Over the years, the band has integrated strong elements of progressive music into their compositions and  Enslaved has gone on to worldwide notoriety for their stunning live shows and accomplished blend of atmospherics & sumptuous, powerful riffs, receiving numerous accolades along the way, including Norwegian Grammys.  

This edition of ‘Yggdrasill’ contains lyrics, as well as new liner notes written by the band.
