Once again, Codex catapults the listener into a haze of turntables, graffiti, and urban soundscapes with his unique blend of glitch-hop and turntablism. Combining warbly saxophones with mangled cassettes, Codex expands on his original vision with ADD Alive – the end result is a sonic world that manages to be confounding, surreal, and fun.

Noisy Sunday (Live at Culture Clash 11.03.24)

Toledo, OH multimedia artist Nick Felaris (Codex) is back with Avert Chroma: a glitch hop odyssey in a world of machinery.

Over three years, Codex sampled machines - metal objects, computers, video games, levers, cranks – and blended his signature turntablism with samplers, drum machines, MIDI, and no-input mixer feedback.

Avert Chroma's beats collapse into each other. Dials and pistons stagger along synthesized animal noises and thudding rebar. Codex collages these metal monsters into askew beats, packed with blink-and-you'll-miss-it samples.

Codex self-produced Avert Chroma during a manic-productive period as an illustrator in Toledo's punk scene. Avert Chroma is a tribute to digital communities, punk, dance music, and machines: a hypercomplex analysis that finds beauty in mechanical chaos.

Noise Redemption Night

Alleycatface all started on a sad night walk down a greasy alley. After many long weeks of screw-ups and loneliness, I dreamed that I was in Alleycatface: an urban cat world, populated by cats and littered with graffiti. In these narrow, shady alleyways, smothered in throwup tags and night sky, music crept around every corner, distorted and beautiful. 
Walk a little further down and dive deep. Eyeball the Bengal that keeps flickering the TV static, or the posse of thug kittens that bang on copper sheets with empty spray cans. Wandering’s part of every cat’s nature in Alleycatface.

Alleycatface was completed in less than 72 hours using only a laptop, a turntable, and the Internet. Samples include MMSSTV call signals, banging on AC ventilators, TV static, broken glass bottles, AM radio preachers/football announcers, two drunk strangers screaming in an alley, and alley field recordings of rain, sirens, and night.
