Since mid-2020 Cliff Dalton has been influenced by 80’s soundtracks. setting about to create a blend of dark robotic mechanical and deep electro. As an artist, his use of conceptual themes is constructed of elements that create dense atmospheric soundscapes. Probing as an interface between harsh reality and pure fiction. He reveals a surrealistic emphasis on sonic particles into the realms of electro.

The Dutch West Coast, home of the Hague, where Cliff Dalton resides, the home of a new producer for Specimen Records 2021. Although not new to the world of producing with several years of recording and playing in studios, his attention to detail has helped him develop a retro mapping onto his perception of the future. Possibly influenced by Underground Resistance and Drexciya. This accomplishment becomes a metaphor for any small group of people who are battling against a system. The album is an observation of what’s happening right now around us. Our interaction with technology and media pervasion and the rise of cybernetics, in a world dominated by corporate ideals.

This comes with a more danceable approach. The beat is tight and the swing is irresistible. This is how it’s like to float around, in the ocean, or in your mind. It is all watery business. The melodies are really lifting this tune-up and remind me of old black ‘n white sci-fi flicks.

Active as a producer, he appears in several releases of Future Me alongside relevant artists of the electro scene. Colombia is in a state of emergency. For many years, we have been victims of the oppression and corruption inflicted by a State that doesn’t care about the well-being of its people, people who have recently awakened due to the excessive abuse caused by the different reforms (tax, health) the current government has planned to implement in our country.
In the protests that began on April 28th, as a show of inconformity towards the State leaders, many Colombians have been injured, and even murdered, by the use of excessive force the military and the ESMAD (riot police) have engaged in.
Therefore we have decided to curate this V.A. as "name your price" along with international artists to recollect funds destined to support front line activists that are putting their lives at stake for the freedom of our people. All profit will be donated to Red Condor Collective. The information about this collective and how they will proceed with the collected funds can be found below.

Replicants - Organic Synthetic Electronic [Woodwork Recordings - WOOD085]

Replicants launches the first EP in a forthcoming series, establishing much of an expansive realm up front - a hopscotch of electro lineage drawn through decades of vintage production that traces back through new wave, retro hip hop and electro, via coldwave and early synth pop. Replicants first Woodwork outing manages a modern obscure slant on some distinct classic sounding tracks.

Three electro rockers keep things fiery enough. Toned down robotics fuel ‘Mindwurm’, with soaring leads and vocoder breaks pushing a bit tougher on ‘Me’ I’, while arcade drum solos flavour the breaks on the retro bboy jam, ‘Boys’. A remix of ‘Mindwurm’ is added for a steady and sparse variation to compliment the original.

Replicants strikes an equally compelling tone on the deeper cuts between. A dreamy, psychedelic haze lingers over the bleep electronica of ‘the db5s’, featuring some entrancing FM electronic piano clearly intended for you, the robot flower child. ‘Organic Synthetic Electronic’ serves up some punchy Roland Rhythm Composer behind a Krafwerk-modeled synth pop jam. ‘Checkpoint Charlie’ takes some bold liberties with it’s highly unusual hybrid of syncopated dub breaks, all reaching a satisfying payoff as the track immerses in searing analog synth and a huge chanting effect.

The Bandcamp version of this release features some free BONUS extras, included only with the full package. Two alternate versions of ‘Me, I’ reveal the inspiration behind the track, with one version taking a wandering song structure while the other offers a more tracky club cut.
