MacRua is a singer/songwriter extraordinaire from Carlow. Currently studying at BIMM in Dublin, he is already attracting plenty of attention for his clever, catchy, quirky, original songs and his equally quirky look.
MacRua recently teamed up with producer Dave Ayers (Studio 51) to record his debut album, titled Storyboard. It features 12 original tracks that showcase MacRua’s incredible voice and invites the listener to peek inside his Alice in
 Wonderland mind where all sorts of magic and mayhem is sonically produced.
MacRua’s musical theatre background serves him well both vocally and performance wise and although strongly influenced by artists such as Bowie, Elton John and Jeff Lynn, his style is comparable to the genius of Jonathan Richmond, MIKA and Eminem. MacRua doesn’t have a self conscious bone in his body and cares little whether something is cool or not. He’s just happy to sing and that’s massively to his credit. His ability to take his audience down the rabbit hole on a magnificent sing along joy ride is worth the money alone. He is as comfortable singing about a slice of toast as he is love or heartbreak but
 what sets him apart is his interpretation, lyrics, dynamic repertoire and his captivating stage antics.
He released his first single independently. Titled “Shotgun”, it immediately resonated with his peers and saw him sell out shows in Whelan’s Main Stage, Grand Social Dublin, The Tower Carlow, Fibber Magees Dublin,Visual Theatre Carlow and The Arts Centre Kildare.
