WHO IS HELEN, AKA ELLUSE, THE ARTIST?

Greetings! If you’re curious, the logo name Elluse is derived from the word Elusive, which will become clear as you delve into my story below.

My artwork delves into the intriguing realm of human conformity. Even within the artistic realm, we often create in uniformity, which I find rather limiting. My art refuses to be confined to a single look or style; I intentionally venture into various mediums and techniques to push the boundaries of creative expression.

I opt for a more nuanced approach when channelling my thoughts through art. I’m no billboard advertisement, and I don’t feel the need to mimic one. My identity is multi-faceted, and I embrace the many layers of my personality. In other words, you won’t be able to pigeonhole me into a neatly labelled box.

From my early years, art has been a constant companion. Thanks to my mother’s influence as an art teacher, I was exposed to diverse mediums and encouraged to explore my creative boundaries. As I’ve matured as an artist, my journey has led me to embrace a wide range of technologies, from mastering computer software to working with sculpture, lino print, fine art, photography, installations, and even delving into 3D printing. More recently, I’ve taken on the challenge of organising art exhibitions. Beyond art, my interests in philosophy and politics have played a pivotal role in shaping my creative endeavours.

Society’s pressure on artists to conform doesn’t sit well with me. I’ve noticed the expectation to settle into a particular artistic medium and style, which doesn’t resonate with my approach. I believe that constantly reproducing the same work until the end of time is a rather monotonous endeavour. For me, art isn’t a mere business or money-making venture; it’s a way of life that defies the consumerist culture of the Western world. I dare say that the planet and our collective well-being would benefit if more individuals embraced their artistic inclinations.

I don’t particularly appreciate how society pressurises artists to conform and have found there is a pressure to choose an art medium and unique style. I didn’t want to do this, and I think creating the same things repeatedly in your art until you die is boring. Art, to me, is not about business or making money but a way to live your life that doesn’t embrace the Western society concept of buying products and throwing them away. It would be better for the planet and people’s mental health if more people became artists.
