If you’ve missed the self-titled debut, released by Island People in 2017 on raster, you’re in for a treat! Known for its surgical- precision explorations into post-digital manipulations, the celebrated label and a platform for many groundbreaking sounds has signed a mastering engineer Conor Dalton, Grammy Award-winning producer David Donaldson, musician and DJ Graeme Reedie, and a guitarist Ian “Chippy” Maclennan for a fascinating journey that brought much of their organic and warm sounds to the slightly cold, a little sterile, and desolate space. For their sophomore release, simply titled II, the group push their sounds into a further territory, resembling their home country of Scotland, “made of contrasting lights and harsh elements where time seems to stand still, circling the moment.” Beyond elements brought on from individual contributions, the group has relied on influences experienced together during their tour. Such slight melancholy can be grasped through pieces titled “Far From Shore,” “Stillness,” and “All My Plants Are Dead,” but today I am happy to offer you this exclusive premiere of a track named “Loneliness Has a Purpose,” which you can first experience it here on its own, and then, along the rest of the tracks on the full album.

I was going to write a bit more about this exciting release, but I feel that I’d be simply paraphrasing the following words, already appearing on the group’s Bandcamp: “The arrangements unfold like the long tracking shots of an early Antonioni film […] gloomy, darker, richer textures have conquered their space…” Yeah, well said. An absolute gem for lovers of surrealist and organic noir-fi as well as pristine, process-oriented production – a culmination of the above four minds gathered in the same unique space! Once again, the physical album is scheduled to start shipping on June 25th.

Some musings on this album: 

"Hier und Dort" (eng: Here and There) really wasn't written about anything particular or specific. All three tracks were born out of spontaneous "jams" with no set goals in mind. 
When listening back to them, contrasts between the inner and outer world, the inner dialog and outer perceptions come to my mind. For everything beyond that, you are invited to let your own thoughts and interpretations wander. 

As far as the production goes, all tracks, but especially "Hier" (Here) play with tiny snippets of sounds - derived from organic and synthesized meditations on sound, that have been recorded, cut into small pieces and rearranged - somewhat like a puzzle, trying to find interesting rhythms and tonal relationships and to assemble a coherent picture. 

"Dort" (There) opens up the sound world some more, allowing room for reverb - evoking larger spaces. To me, it feels more like a reaction to something that presents itself from the outside, rather than an introspective. It has a sudden change of perspective at about half-way, but emerges back into that external world. 

"Dazwischen" (In-between) was somewhat of a challenge, because it is derived from a somewhat less-than-perfect 4-track recording, so very little editing or volume changes between the instruments and elements of the track was possible. I liked the original, melancholic nature of the improvisation, so I kept that and played with progressively intricate edits of the whole track, as opposed to single elements.. 

As always, I tried to find a balance between detailed, "macro-editing" and a spontaneous flow as well as an element of rawness, as I feel this is what keeps the life in the music, be it electronic or organic.

I usually don't make anything this long, or at least I won't post it, but this is an interesting longer type evolving, rhythmic type sound, with added parts and phrases added in, and left out, as time goes by. It gets a little more weird near the end, and then fades away. Here is "Pulse".

Falling Inward

Dive into the profound depths of 'Cosmic Ocean', a mesmerizing electronic journey crafted by an Unknown Artist. This track unfolds with an ethereal beauty, beginning with expansive ambient textures that slowly introduce a steady, driving rhythm. Cosmic Ocean

After the releases with original works from Tronik Youth, A Jokers Bizarre (Jokers Of The Scene + Club Bizarre) and Dj Rocca, with great remixes from artists such as Red Axes, Timothy J. Fairplay, Justin Robertson or MR TC, now it's the turn of the Spanish trio Cannibal Ink to make its debut on Rotten City.
They are Antonio Canca, Guillermo Iraola and Andres Navarrete. Fruit of the union of its old moniker Voodoo Corporation, Antonio & Andres joined Guillermo to look for those sounds that had frequented their neurons during the last years. EBM, New Wave, Industrial and Cosmic Disco are the palette of sounds that make up their DNA.
With releases in labels like Ombra International, and remixed by amazing artists such as Emperor Machine or Moscoman, now it's time to give welcome to these guys to Rotten City with an EP composed by two wicked original pieces full of electronics & dark ethnic sounds for the dance floor plus remixes from the mexicans Zombies In Miami and the lisergic italian duo Mushrooms Project. The first track on the A side is Samarkanda, a trip into the middle east. Slow and mechanical funk mixed with arabian sounds giving an ethnic touch to the darkness of the track.
After, we find The Souk, continuing the style of Samarkanda but in this case more narcotic, acid and deep than the previous.
On the B side we find the amazing 'Audio Guide Remix' from Zombies In Miami, and as the name says, it introduces us in the mode of a guided ceremony, in a shamanic ritual that will make us find our own fears so we can let them go on the dance floor letting us flow through much more exciting places than the ones our mind normally is. Close your eyes and prepare to ride. Finally, the remix of Mushrooms Project offers another good trip for the head. Longer, deeper, more narcotic if is possible than the original and retaining that ancient and dark atmosphere. Startling.
