Stunning, this. I'd never have thought to begin 3 lines with these 3 similar sounds, nor melodically and lyrically to walk around the block as these 4th lines all do. Real art meets superb craft.

I have a lyric with just the same verse structure but I have never managed to get it to work musically. I am now inspired to revisit BUT I have your lovely tune in my head now and can never make mine original now! Great song Niki.

Note about the song: First song written with covid. Bit of a ramble on this, hit record and just ran with it. It was a challenge to try to focus on something a bit more structured. I'm honestly just glad to have been able to get this out. Be well, friends.

Second song with covid - well on the mend, and thank you for the well wishes over the last week. Glad I was able to put this one together.

baby girl climbed down the stairs
to meet her daddy at the bottom
it had been a long, hard day
working down at the docks

she saw the lines on his face
were deep and full of sorrow
she said, "we'll try again tomorrow, daddy
maybe then we'll win"

so they pulled out a cool treat and toasted 
under the light of the harvest moon
carrying away with giggles and 
everything they could fit onto their spoons

at the end of the night
daddy said, "baby girl, time to tuck on in"
"and who knows, maybe tomorrow,

but what daddy couldn't show
he was holding on for dear life
