This piece is dedicated to my cousin that passed away this year from alcoholism and drug abuse. I found out while I was in the studio working on my first piece. I was heartbroken to hear that one of my family members had passed away due to addiction. I always felt a huge empathy for people that are addicted to substances or struggle with any other kind of addiction. For me addiction is a form of escapism, a way to feed a void. The first half of the piece is composed with sounds relating to addiction, such as crushed pills, pouring liquid and dice. I wanted to create something chaotic which finally leads to catharsis. I included sounds of choral service as a representation of dying. The title was inspired by the poem Bluebird by Charles Bukowski, fragments of which can be heard in the piece . He also struggled with alcoholism and the poem explores this theme.
