A mermaid in shock, while her heart thumped and fluttered;

The lovers fled for their lives, a crime committed for every breath;

She threw tridents in return, for her paramour she defended;

But a spear impaled her heart, the soul in her eyes shortly faded.

‘God, no!’ ’This cannot be real!’, despite everything he saw;

For the beloved he mourned, no more fear or weaknesses;

Holding flowers she once donned, came a wholehearted promise.

Steps spiralling up the depths, gemstones covering the walls;

Wielding a spear he picked up, he scaled, hunted and brawled;

Water streaming down the sides, soldiers emerged and fought;

With strength, resolve and great luck, vengeance for her he sought.

Atop the stairwell, a human king sat annoyed and frustrated;

‘How dare you come here? None sways my mermaids, alone I’m exalted!’

Righteous fury rose, in the diver’s head where memories flooded;

Two edged blades were drawn, the men locked in combat, lethally livid.

Into The Blue: Regicide

The king was dead, his soldiers stormed in, and the diver jumped into the spiral;

Through the darkness, he rode the currents, and he found the shore and reached the atolls;

Beyond their realm, mermaids retreated, so he found his way home, his head hung low.

Still he looked back for the love he lost, and swore to return to resolve his woes.
