Grandma Margaret was a very good pianist and her Baldwin piano hand painted by artist Alfred Faniel was the living room “piece of resistance”. She was quite overdoing the playing while constantly adding notes and ornaments like the American Pianist Liberace. While playing she was also singing the orchestra parts at the same time but obviously we could not hear the orchestra like she was hearing it. Curiously, now that the house is haunted, each time we come in that living room we hear two movements of her favorite piano concerto from the composer … “Syrel”, including the orchestra that we never heard before.

Our process started off with a simple repeating chord progression on the piano for Helen to improvise over. We gradually added more elements once the vocal parts were complete and the final element is a field recording of the dawn chorus, recorded at 5am in our back garden.

it's a first draft of the piece certainly worth investigating the sonic possibilities it offers. 
the synth always behaves differently in re-proposing the sequence, depending on the envelope phase in which it is found, I am fascinated by it, I have been looking for a sound like this for a long time.
I find it very meditative, so much so that it reminded me of seeing the splendid paintings of the painter Aldo Mondino, more than twenty years ago, in an exhibition at Villa delle Rose in Bologna. 
I immediately fell in love with those fantastic paintings. 
On the cover a detail of the work: Master of Fantasmagorie.

“Gordian Suite - Eleven Knots for String Orchestra” was completed in September, 2020 in Fairview, TX. 

Mastering performed by eMastered.com. See other eMastered works by the composer at eMastered.com/profile/robtjbrooks.

Printed scores and parts are available from the composer. 

The work consists of eleven “knots” or sections progressing from one to the next without pause. 

Performance time is about 17 1/4 minutes. 

Gordian Suite is based on the composer’s “Piano Sonata No. 5: Toccata Brillante."

A real pleasure to be part of the 2020 Unconformity Festival based in Queenstown Tasmania This year Dani and I, along with 8 artists from around the globe were asked to re-score an old Sci-Fi movie as part of Unconformity's UNTV live night. Naturally enough all activities were via the Internet this year and the show was broadcast on October 17th 2020 There is almost no info about the 1926 film Dani and I were given other than the year it was made.
