Johnny grew up in South Dakota, USA. Surrounded by cornfields and gravel roads, he became a state champion runner in highschool, & later attended college on scholarship. He started recording & producing music in his dorm but had to drop out due to never attending classes. In his mid twenties, Johnny was pointed by a friend to move to the small beach town of Charleston, SC. Unfortunately, he didn't have the money for relocation or studio time. That changed after a tree fell onto his poorly maintained RAV4 ( which he estimates was only worth $2,500 ) and his insurance company paid him $10,000.  Through strange & lucky circumstances, he went on to finish Secret Wave ( 2013 ) with the help of his friend & producer, Wolfgang Zimmerman ( Band of Horses, Susto ). While in Charleston, Delaware helped produce and record on a variety of artist’s records, while also co-creating SUSTO. In 2016 he left the band to start prog-rock outfit The Artisanals. After touring internationally as the frontman with the band, Delaware is now focusing time and energy on his solo work, while building off his second release “Energy of Light” in 2022. He currently resides in Mexico with his girlfriend and weiner dog, Pancho.
