This song was written as a way to step back from the people who have constrained me and from the kind of reality that offers no escape—
or, more precisely, as a decision to reclaim my own attention and desires.

“Stay cool.” “Don’t complain.” “Don’t hang out with people like that.”
When words like these seep into daily life so naturally that they feel like part of the air itself,
can we really remain true to ourselves?
What we like, who we value, the pace at which we choose to live—
even the right to choose these things feels quietly taken from us.

There are artists like Richard D. James who create astonishing music in solitude, untouched by the gaze of the world.
But that kind of solitude isn’t something anyone can simply will themselves into.
Most of us live, in a state where our very desires are subtly hijacked by the outside world.
The fact that this track contains an element of “resistance” to society only reminds me
that I’m not fully free either—that my reactions are still shaped by what surrounds me.

The underground and the mainstream are both meaningful spaces to create in,
and the tension between them has undeniably produced some extraordinary music.
But—as Jenny Odell suggests—
there are sources of creativity that can only be found by belonging to neither,
by observing the world again at one’s own pace.
To step outside those factions is not to run away; it is an act of reclaiming one’s attention,
a way to protect the roots of one’s artistic practice.

So I have one request.
If someone around you chooses to step away from factions, to belong nowhere,
and to recover the rhythm of their own path—
please don’t stop them.
It isn’t isolation; it’s a journey back to themselves.
Honor that choice. Watch over them quietly, without taking it away.
