WHAT

WHY 
‣   4DJs started as a one-person proof-of-concept: could a mix be more than track-to-track experience, could it feel like a short film? It’s grown into an open lab where any adventurous DJ can co-pilot and push the craft past status-quo of beat-matching. Every different approach lifts the art a notch higher; every solo tape shows where my sound is headed next.

"somewhere over the rainbow, there is a place we can go to do magic. it’s a land of abundance where we tranifest our dreams—yet we bring our nightmares with us. in loopy quests for healing, power, and pussy, we tromp up and down a steep mountainside bearing amulets, wands, and shields. on moonlit nights, shadows reach out from our wakes, but vanish as soon as we turn around to look. 



this mix is inspired by a night on that land, taking refuge from a storm and wayward psychic energies with three queer children in a bathhouse. we fed logs to the stove in a wood-fired sauna as outside, muffled thunder seeped from clouds sparkling with electricity. i felt myself channeling Hera, adopting Zeus’s ephebes—young, effeminate cupbearers. one carried water, the other a staff, and the third was keeper of the Pan flute, an eternally hitting vape; the gift that keeps us living. 



staying lifted, surfing currents of our whims, we fanned the flames of a bonfire outside that persisted to spite the rain, until one of the children whispered “hold me,” or rather demanded “cuddle puddle.” we traipsed up to the cabin, where with beaver-like instincts, i heaped blankets and pillows on the wood floor to make a dam that held back time. the kids nuzzled in purring satisfaction. an oil lamp on the hearth illuminated offerings of tinctures, balms, and spiked Mountain Dew. i puffed the vape while i scratched the kids’ backs, admiring the sacredness of youth. 



for those few hours we were all nineteen, re-writing our stories with chosen family and striving to not re-inscribe the wounds inflicted by our blood. we needed to not give a fuck about anything except blowing on each other’s simmering coals. both dreams and nightmares can keep one from sleep; i know this from experience. so nothing could sate me like watching chests rise and fall in slow rhythms, as each of Hera’s children faded into gentle sleep.

Listener. What do you call a suit you never bought but were born wearing? That’s riiight: my native extraterrestrial birthday suit. (You didn’t really believe I was human, did you?) If so, I implore you: open your mind—and your pockets—to TAPE011. Because where I come from, a “birthday” isn’t some yearly pat on the back—it’s a ritual and rebirth.

I can give you one solid fact: October 27—that’s when Sharlene (se) catapulted my soul and MERGE’d me (plus every galactic spirit hovering nearby) into a black hole. And let me tell you, as a bona fide extraterrestrial, that hole spun me like nobody’s business. It stretched me wide open. How open, you ask? Gaping, to the point of no return. Being rebirthed through the neon hallways of Windows XP? That’s a trip I still can’t explain.

This entire cosmic plunge demanded I retell my golden 27th sojourn first thing in the morning—through sound. 4DJS021: A Kautious Score

Played a  slow slambient darkroom set at Noxeema Jackson in dc this January during Mid Atlantic Leather. Its the sound I've always wanted in a darkroom (chuggy, not quite danceable, a bit broken).

What we did in the dark (live from MAL)

Tripped-out excursions through percussive club music with the Nowadays resident.

Ayesha Chugh, AKA Ayesha, makes club music that activates the body. The Brooklyn-based artist has spent the last few years carving out a distinct lane in modern club music. Her fusion of dubstep, techno and essential '90s rave elements into dynamite club tools that test and support dancers in equal measure. This time though, for her RA Podcast, Chugh purposefully tilts in a "more colorful wonky direction."

Since first turning heads with releases on labels like Fever AM and Kindergarten Records, she’s continued to refine a sound that feels both playful and punishing, marked by writhing basslines, rumbling drums and an innate ability to make bodies move. Her productions capture a kind of kinetic precision—tracks that are slippery yet forceful, balancing psychedelic textures with dubstep-like physicality and club-focused power. As Andrew Ryce wrote of her debut, Rhythm is Memory, her skill is "full of textures that wrap around the otherwise thudding, sub-heavy kick drums." After a serious accident in 2024 stopped her in her tracks, this year marks a full return to global touring with a new vantage point on life and the sound she seeks to push.

RA.983, clocking in at nearly two and a half hours, finds Chugh flexing that club muscle once again. Offering a tour through global club music both old and new, it's based around a set at her home base Nowadays this February. It's a patient but relentless ride: from deep, tunneling psytrance, progressive techno and slippery electro before really turning on the gas at the half mark, moving into slanted UK techno territory.

As she explains in the Q&A, it's a carefully curated selection of tracks that probes "what we perceive as tasteful." It's a mix that speaks to her deep knowledge of dance music’s lineage—and her intuitive ability to push it forward.

4DJS015:  Too Much Rain, Too Little Crack

You caught me. Sometimes I’m just not good enough at covering my steps behind. Double homicide it is, cue the meme. That of course, if you heard the previous tape you’d understand that we are standing on a criminal sonic journey. 

TAPE019 is the one before the twentieth and it gives me great pleasure to introduce you to it. Would I consider it a baby, maybe. Would you consider me your baby? Do you want to pay for my school? I guess we can keep our roles then… me the clown and you the consumer of here this entertainment  honey of TAPE019. 

TAPE019 introduces an hour sonic journey filled with some oomph. Ideally if you were going on a journey this would be somewhere you’d consider lost but hey this is.. yeah. Okay want another bump? type of vibe. It’s rather a special treat for you because for most, you need mama to feed you a spoon at a time and I can’t always do that—instead, I’ll be feeding your ears with a set focused on the modular side of things. With minimal (count two) of productions and a laundry list of multitrack tools, loops and grind. It’s honestly a pretty cool set and I hope that your ears get wet from it. 

Please note that this set is providing an eccentric sound that spans eras and instrumentations… Flip the key and get lost.

Has it really reached our 20th TAPE? Feels like only yesterday we were crawling out of that big black hole, and now we’ve found ourselves at a moment of divergence, on a new timeline. 

Is it a merging of sonic sparkle into your gaping ear canal—or something more sinister? Something is brewing and only Time Through Love’s Tale will tell in TAPE020.

The sonic journey you’re about to embark consists of a simple yet strong story arc anchored by a phantom companion through out. To start your journey, you’ll be greeted with a moody flash-forward opening, tragic broken hearted vocals of B.B. King with The Thrill is Gone followed by the following productions:

It’s by design. Sometimes the fewer the steps, the deeper the fall.. and the deeper you fall the harder it is to get up and easier to slip on lube. Not the look, boo. If you were wondering, I find that fucking amazing… by.. the way.

A “freak-out” is a mid-60s psychedelic happening where the lights, drugs, and grooves dissolve choreography so dancers can sprawl, sway, and spiral any way the music moves them—total free-form liberation on the floor. In mama Giggly Puffs  context it was about control--trying to catch them all. 

Listener, in our context, you're invited on your terms and liberated you are. 

TAPE022, takes you through a LIVE SET exercise journeying and exploring the manipulation of very very verrrry familiar sounds across eras and media application.

TAPE023  we continue on our diverged sonic path which is inherently is walking in the direction of our shared consciousness. A path to what? Was it the same path the previous you took. The days, months and years in a lull of deep DEEP introspection. A path that led to confusion and whole lotta hole. As it rallied around the tip of the head and said release me it found the shattered mirror lifting from the ground by boiling blood and healed itself. 

Listener, Some might call that getting released from the K hole you were in but I promise you, this is a different timeline. A timeline you bounced. A universe you’re entering,  only bound by your own restrictions.

Douched & Dangerous is a genre-defiant, high-femme, no-fucks-given mix that celebrates trans greatness, joy, and the playfulness of American club culture.

Opening with the voice of trans icon AJA, “Douched & Dangerous”, is an ode to trans women who have significantly shaped nightlife. From Bashkka to Arca to Ms. Boogie, these women drive the flow of the mix producing a bouncy, sexy, and an "I'm that bitch" type of energy. DIVAS TO THE DANCE FLOOR!!!

This mix doesn't sit neatly inside genre lines. It builds, crashes, and swerves through bass, booty house, experimental techno, and ghetto club. Inspired by how Berlin always reminds me of my love for Black American culture — the humor, the irreverence, the inventiveness — this set is a love letter to this community as well.

Ultimately, this is for the gworls, the dolls, the they/thems, and anyone who doesn't do keta on the dance floor lol.
