Brambles is inspired by memories of childhood pastimes, particularly picking blackberries with my mum, sister, and grandparents. The gentle fingerpicked guitar part provides a steady backdrop for the dreamy clarinets and trumpets that weave through the track. I was really happy to be able to include my sister on the track as one of the vocalists.

One by one we go rummaging on
Staining our shoes with the berries and sun
We pluck, we pull, the buckets fill

I Used To Write Songs is taken from our album FREE SUMMER. 

I used to write songs about being blue,
being green and every other hue,
thinking I'd outgrow them,
you never outgrow them,

I used to write songs about being down,
down in the dumps,
a plasticine lump,
thinking I'd outgrow them,

Just growing old man grumps like the
strength of the air con 
the heat of the sun
the noise from the kids playing outside
having too much fun

I used to write songs, sung about the rain,
tried to keep the bad days at bay,
I hid behind metaphor,
built me a big word wall,
you can't pin anything to me,
not a tail to a donkey,
and what does that make me?
the ass.

no marley and me didn't set me off,
Ive clogged up my tearducks,
25 years of holding in tears,
