Det går pænt godt for de danske landshold i 2021. Kasper Hjulmands A-landshold vandt i går kamp nr. 7 ud af de seneste 8 kampe og har altså et snit i de seneste otte kampe på 2,625 point. Tidligere på søndagen vandt Albert Capellas’ U21-mandskab ved EM-slutrunden for U21-landshold og skal nu bare have et point mod Rusland for selv at afgøre, at man kommer i en EM-kvartfinale til maj.

Det betyder samtidig, at Danmark lige nu er det eneste europæiske land - ud af 54 - der har maksimumpoint i både VM-kvalifikationen og EM-slutrunden for U21-landshold. Det betyder måske ikke, at Danmark har verdens bedste unge og voksne landshold, men at situationen lige nu både er særdeles gunstig - og perspektivrig for dansk landsholdsfodbold. Og så betyder det, at kampen om at få en plads i Kasper Hjulmands trup til EM-slutrunden til sommer er usædvanlig hård - og at kun ganske få af de meget succesrige spillere på U21-holdet kan drømme om at trænge sig ind den eksklusive voksenklub.

Det kigger vi på i denne Landsholds-Special, hvor fodboldspiller Jonas Hebo Rasmussen og fodboldtræner Rasmus Monnerup analyserer de to landshold og kigger frem mod onsdag, hvor det gælder to nøglekampe:

1. En absolut nøglekamp for A-landsholdet, der møder Østrig på udebane, hvor et point vil være godt, mens endnu en sejr vil være ensbetydende med en flyvende start for Kasper Hjulmand og holdet, der i forvejen blev nr. to i  sin gruppe i Nations League i det øverste lag foran blandt andet England og sikrede en tur mere på allerøverste attraktive niveau.
2. Den afgørende kamp for at nå EM-kvartfinalen for U21-landsholdet, der mødes Rusland.

Og så taler vi en del om den ‘markering’, som landsholdet præsenterede - ganske, ganske kort - under holdfotoet før kampen mod Moldova, hvor der på spillernes t-shirt med forholdsvis overskuelige bogstaver stod ‘Football supports change’ - fodbold støtter forandring. En markering, der havde til formål at pege på det faktum, at en VM-slutrunde placeret i Qatar i december markerer et idrætspolitisk lavpunkt i fodboldhistorien.

The playing conditions were tough on a heavy pitch at Pairc Sean MacDiarmada in Carrick-on-Shannon on Sunday. The rain and the wind didn't help matters either but, thanks to a masterclass performance from Cillian O'Connor, Mayo opened their Connacht Championship campaign with an eleven-point win over Leitrim and now go forward to meet defending provincial champions Roscommon in the semi-final next weekend.

In this episode of the Mayo News football podcast we review Mayo's victory over Leitrim. Mayo News reporter Ger Flanagan was at the game in Carrick-on-Shannon and along with Rob Murphy he hosts this podcast episode.
