It's fair to say that Tim Bernhardt, aka Satin Jackets, has kept himself busy the last 18 months. Whilst much of the music industry's been locked down, the nu-disco star's released a series of acclaimed singles and forged several new connections. One of which, his partnership with up & coming UK vocalist Tailor is already paying dividends. Blessed with one of those voices that you feel as much as hear, Tailor delivers a stunning performance on 'Spell', perfectly capturing the song's seductive, yearning vibe. At the same time Bernhardt produces one of his finest tracks in recent years allowing Tailor's vocals the space to breathe, burnishing them with seductive synths washes, subtle flourishes and a dreamy beat.

Having clocked up more than 60 million streams on Spotify alone for his 2019 album 'Solar Nights', Bernhardt has gone from strength to strength, releasing a string of singles and EPs throughout 2020 and '21 from classic instrumental nu-disco though to hit collaborations with the likes of Australian indie star Panama and new talent such as Tailor.

Back, Jack, do it Again - Yes, back with my first program of the year. But before that, I would like to give props and a HUGE thank you to Yissel @soundsbyyissel for taking over the decks last week with the first show of the year and also being the first guest of 2022. She went beyond the call of duty to give the program a proper kick start. Her set and selection is everything that the show is about and what I’ve been trying to build on for the last 7 years. This was Yissel’s second guest spot on the program as a guest and I will definitely not gonna let so much time pass under the bridge for her next appearance. Speaking of last week's guest, I had a nice convo with her about music and how she approaches it. She said something that really stuck with me. A set, or mix, is really telling a story. Most of the time it’s our personal story and we have the ability to control the narrative which is very empowering and healing.

Keeping that in mind it’s how I approached this week’s show. I’ve been listening to different takes/edits on tracks that had a significance during my teenage years. These songs definitely tell part of my story, such as the break ups (hey, I can’t help it I’m a libra), the song that was playing the first time I went to a club underage using fake IDs (hint: it was by Billy Ocean), a track from the Cure that used to haunt me in high school, and many more cuts that were around before my time but that I used to love. There is even a song from my favorite TV show of the time. These are mainly rock and disco songs with a modern take. Hence, the Yacht Rock/ Disco edition. This is volume 1 cause I am hoping to do more if people dig it. If you also grew up around the time I did and these songs bring back any memories let me know. Would love to hear about it. Tim Bernhardt, AKA Satin Jackets, returns in March with his first proper single of 2020, the brightly optimistic 'I'm With It' featuring American singer, songwriter Metaxas. Returning to the leftfield pop that characterised last year's critically acclaimed album, 'Solar Nights', the new single artfully pairs Satin Jackets' distinctive musicality with Metaxas's intimate vocal delivery to create a vibrant uplifting song brimming with optimism.

Having met in 2019 after Tim remixed Metaxas's hit 'Be Real', the pair quickly realised they were a perfect fit for each other as Metaxas explains. "After meeting Tim through our collab on Be Real: Remixes, we instantly hit it off and decided to work together on a song. Tim sent over the first version of 'I'm With It' and I immediately felt a connection to both the groove and instrumentation."

"I remember writing the verse and chorus in one go, and feeling like the song's hopeful chord progression needed suitably hopeful lyrics. The song talks about reinforcing relationships and stating definitively that one is present and supportive. Most people struggle with insecurities and a true friend and partner usually does their best to keep these away."

With more than 35 million streams on Spotify alone, Satin Jackets' 2019 album 'Solar Nights' cemented his position as one of the biggest, and best, nu-disco producers working today. Continuing to refine and polish his sound the German producer shows no sign of resting on his laurels though as 'I'm With It' and recent collaboration with Australian star Panama, 'Electric Blue', have clearly shown.
