Ma’ribi’s Poem on Air Pilot Maryam:

قصيدة الماربي في الطيارة مريم:

يا عبد ربه كلم الشيخ مكتوم 
عن رغبتي في خطبة البنت مريم

قلبي متيم في هواها ومغروم 
 ما يطلبه مكتوم من شرطها تم 

أما تزوجني على شرع وسلوم 
وإلا فتقصفني وتدخل جهنم

ما عاد فيها حكم حاكم ومحكوم 
هي خصم قلبي والحكم والمحكم

قولوا لها في حبها صرت متهوم 
حرام تقصف قلب عاشق متيم

عيني تراقبها ولا ذاقت النوم 
احلم بها في ظلمة الليل الأظلم

عشقتها عشق المعنى لكلثوم 
عشقت بدلتها ورتبة مقدم 

ودي تطيرني على الجو وتحوم 
فيني كما طير الفضاء حين حوَّم

من طائرتها نزَّلت غاز مسموم 
صابت فؤادي بالغرام المحتم

O ‘Abdrabbuh, tell Sheikh Maktum that I want to propose to Maryam.

I am fond of her,
Any condition (on her dowry) Maktūm requests will be fulfilled.

Either you give her to me as wife according to Sharī‘a (law) and things will be fine,
Or she bombards me and she will go to hell.

It is not a matter of a verdict of a ruler and a convicted,
But she the adversary of my heart, the judge and jury (at the same time).

Tell her that I became accused of being infatuated of her,
It is wrong doing that she bombard an infatuated lover’s heart.

My eyes watch her and I could not enjoy sleep,
I dream of her amidst the darkest nights.

I loved her like an infatuation of a lover to Kalthūm,
I loved her (military) suit and her (military) rank as lieutenant colonel.

I wish she takes me on air around with her,
And let me fly like a bird in the sky.

From her (jet) fighter she emitted poisonous gas,
She hit my heart with a definite love (arrow).

Response of the Emarati poet Nājiḥ al-Talīdī to the Maʼribī poet.
The poem  was sung by the Yemeni minstrel ʼAḥmad bin Ṣāliḥ al-Raimī and the Saudi minstrel Muḥammad Nūr al-Rashīdī.

رد الشاعر الإماراتي ناجح التليدي على المأربي أداء صوت اليمن المنشد أحمد بن صالح الريمي والمنشد السعودي محمد نور الرشيدي:

يا الماربي با نوب عنهم وبا قوم 
من قال هم لو كنت صادق ملزَّم

حنا نمون ونعرف الشيخ مكتوم 
لا من تكلمنا بكلمة يتمم

حنا الخليج وصفَّنا صَفّ محزوم 
واللي طلب مريم لزوم يتحزم

مريم وأبوها شرطهم شرط معلوم 
عندي وأنا عن شرطهم با تكلم

تحضر لهم عبد الملك مطلب القوم 
رَضْوَة وهم من مهر مريم مقدم

ومن الشرايف عشر للشيخ مكتوم 
تصفهم طابور عند المقدم 

وأحمد على يأتي مربط ومخزوم 
كل السلاح اللي بيده يسلم 

هذا المهر لا تقضي العمر محروم 
لولا غلاكم ما عطينا المقدم

إن جبتهم فانا بذا الشي ملزوم 
فلا تسلم بعدهم أي درهم

حنا نسوي الحفل ونضيف القوم 
تقدير لك ياللي بمريم متيم

O Maʼribī, I will deputise them,

We only but respect Sheikh Maktūm and we know him,
Had we uttered a single word (in request), he would complete the sentence (in fullfilment).

We are the Gulf (people) and we are well organised intact lineage,
And he who requests the hand of Maryam should be of high quality traits, too.

Maryam and her father have a well-defined condition,
And since I know this, I will speak on their behalf.

You should hand over ʻAbdul-Malik (al-Ḥūthī) who is wanted by people,
He would be a ransom and a dowry for Maryam.

Also, ten of the Sharīfa ladies to be handed over to Sheikh Maktūm,
To be lined in a queue when handed over to the chief leader.

For ʼAḥmad ʻAlī (son of Ṣāliḥ) should be brought shackled and pierced, 
All of his weaponry should handed over.

This is the dowry. Do not spend your life deprived,
Had you not been so dear (for us), we would not have given you the first installment (of it).

If you can manage to bring them all, I will be bound by fulfilling this (condition).
And you are not obliged to pay a single extra Dirham.

We will arrange for the party and will invite all the folk,
As a good gesture to you, you who loves Maryam.
