For Midnight Riot's latest trip into the compilation market, Yam Who has put together an expansive set designed to pay tribute to Ron Hardy, the Music Box, and the formative years of Chicago House. Interestingly, this is done by mixing vintage material - Mach's influential "On & On", Ron Hardy versions of Nightlife Unlimited's disco scorcher "Peaches & Prunes" and Ragtyme's early house gem "I Can't Stay Away" - with tribute style tracks from Chicago legends and contemporary artists (Gene Hunt, Robert Owens, Ooft, Leo Zero, Yam Who, Robot 84, 80s Child). It's a simple idea, brilliantly executed, with much of the material successfully joining the dots between Italo, proto-house, electrofunk and, of course, early Chicago house.

After seven albums and almost two decades of blessing us discerning musical folk with the very best in disco and house that the UK has to offer, the stars have aligned and Crazy P has collided with Classic in the outer hemispheres of sonic glory. ‘Truelight EP’ demonstrates fully the unique and superior disco/house hybrid sound that has carved Crazy P’s legend into the bedrock of both those beloved genres. 

‘One True Light’ provides cosmic clusters of subtle beats that sparkle and shimmer, with plenty of that well-versed groove that seems so effortless to the Crazy P crew. ‘In My Hands’ follows some darker twists with a haunting crunching bassline and organ stabs. Topping it all off are remixes of both tracks, one by Crazy P member Hot Toddy aka Chris Todd, drawing on that memorable snaking bottom line and amping up the production with echoes of Donna Summer seduction. Keeping it firmly within the camp, co-founder Ron Basejam remixes ‘One True Light’, taking the tempo down to create lush, psychedelic soundscapes. There’s no doubt, Crazy P are stronger and more relevant than ever.

Label founder Hector Couto returns to his Roush imprint this August, with the Spaniard delivering four sizzling house cuts in the form of his ‘Mr Magic’ EP With experience and technical ability well beyond his years in the game, Hector Couto has firmly cemented himself as one of the most well respected and talented producers in House with releases on the likes of VIVa, 20/20 Vision, Get Physical and Hot Creations since making his production debut in 2008. With his Roush imprint thriving, welcoming talent such as DJ W!LD and Steve Lawler to the label over the past 12 months alone, Couto returns to the label do what he does best this August, with a selection of fresh productions that ooze quality from the off. Title cut ‘Mr. Magic’ kicks things off and sees the Spaniard combine a medley of intricate organic percussion patterns with bumping low ends to form an infectious groove, whilst ‘Alive’ quickly raises the tempo as Couto introduces a driving bassline guided by shimmering hats and rugged kicks to reveal a production destined for the peak time. On the flip, ‘Aphrodite’ strips things back to basics and unveils a bright, bubbling lead line, whilst subtle nuances and regimented percussion skillfully go to work in the background of the track. Last up, ‘Reloaded’ punctuates the release by utilising twisting sub tones, menacing bass licks and tripped out vocals, concluding yet another impressive offering from Couto on his return to Roush Label.

After a busy eighteen months promoting his debut album, Essex-hailer Max Chapman brings us his La Fiesta EP on Hot Creations. The title track features alongside remixes by the versatile Luca Cazal and house veteran Todd Terry.

With Latin vibes from the outset, Max has encompassed the essence of The White Isle. La Fiesta is a  migration of percussion, chanting and melodic vocals and flirtatious basslines. Luca Cazal has turned up the kick and brings an old school vibe with his remix. Todd Terry’s energetic arrangement of snares and bongos compliments the provencal vocal perfectly.

Since his arrival on the scene six years ago, Max Chapman has released on an abundance of labels including VIVa, Toolroom and last years Body Jack on Elrow, that achieved number one status across all genres on Beatport. Established in 2012, his imprint Resonance Records provides a platform for the freshest talent in underground tech-house. Max’s album Catch Me If You Can, released last year, received a notable 9/10 in both Mixmag and DJ Mag.

Luca Cazal has been steadily rising up the ranks since his debut release on Crosstown Rebels in 2013. Constantly refining his production skills, Luca transmits positive emotions with every track he releases. After three decades on the scene, Grammy-nominated Legend Todd Terry has continued to release  superior productions and entertain crowds worldwide.

After a year that will go down in the @glitterboxibiza history books, five previously unreleased mixes that have soundtracked the label’s parties in 2019 get a special outing on part one of new series Glitterbox Jams. This red-hot delivery features the sought-after Catz ‘n Dogz remix of Fiorious’ ‘I’m Not Defeated’, where the Polish duo re-work this powerful call-to-resistance anthem into a synth-laden club cut. Also on the release is Mighty Mouse’s gloriously funky remix of Qwestlife’s ‘Hit It Off’, where the powerhouse vocals of Teni Tinks really shine. Disco maestro Mousse T. delivers two signature grooves, first his magnificent mash-up of Selace’s ‘So Hooked On Your Lovin’’ and ‘Bad Habit’, appropriately titled ‘Hooked On Bad Habits’, as well as the previously vinyl only E-Funk Mix of The Vision’s ‘Heaven’.
