During a recent trip to New York City Orreco's Chief Scientific Adviser Dr Charlie Pedlar caught up with Casey Smith, the Director of Medicine at the Dallas Mavericks, an Orreco client. Casey has over 14 years of experience with the Mavericks, helping the likes of the legendary Dirk Nowitzki play at the peak of his powers and stay on the court.  Casey discusses some of the unique challenges of the sport, where the younger players entering the league simply have to learn to survive the gruelling game schedule. Players sometimes have to cope with 4 to 5 games in 7 days, travelling from coast to coast, across multiple time zones.  He calls for a future where evidence-based best practice not only sets a standard for protection from injury and subsequent recovery, but also covers player readiness, sleep, and nutrition, in order to protect player wellness and maintain high performance.
