Zontal was written in 1985 when Björk and GKO formed a duo alongside K.U.K.L. The piece was performed in many concerts but Björk and GKO recorded it in a session which also included Patre, Stígðu mig and Síðasta ég. The engineer in these seesions, Mel Jeﬀerson, thought the music sounded classical and called the duo “The Elgar Sisters”. The recordings have since come to be known as The Elgar Sessions.

Compositionally, the piece is a sort of back-to-front blues with a diabolus. The work is horizontal in two ways: The text that Björk sang and is now read by Megas is a poem by Þór Eldon called Horizontal Position and the piece is written in a “horizontal” key. To Eldon’s text are added some words from a paper by GKO on sub-nuclear structures, Platonic solids and magic numbers.

Dance (To The Rhythm)

Mjötviður til Fóta was a CD album released in 2001 by GKO and HOH, to celebrate the 20 year anniversary of the proper version of the band ÞEYR (1981-1983), and is a compilation from the albums "Mjötviður Mær" and "Iður til Fóta", both released in 1981. The tracks for this album were selected with universality in mind, so the more "local" tracks that addressed Icelandic audience were not included. This album was printed in 1500 units, and sold out in 2010 and has not been reissued - while we will possibly do a vinyl version in 2021 to celebrate the 40 year anniversary of the said proper band ÞEYR.

Dark Matter, formerly nicknamed "mass", was composed by GKO in 1985 for the ELGAR/KUKL project. The present version was recorded in Studio Hljóðriti and Studio Grettisgat in 1987 by Mel Jefferson. Accompanying GKO in this production are Birgir Mogensen, Einar Melax, Bogomil and Björk. This is the first official publication, while a live version was recorded by the Icelandic Television in 1986, but was declared classified and destroyed by the staff of RÚV.
