Aegean Sea is the second single from Modern Biology's upcoming full length album. The Vancouver-based artist composer went viral on tiktok for his biological approach to making music, plugging synthesizers into plants and mushrooms to create ambient and dreamy soundscapes from nature. Aegean Sea was written and recorded live, outside, under an old growth cedar tree on the West Coast, with a modular synthesizer and some guitar pedals. Instantly bringing to mind the work of Japanese 'environmental music' from the early 80s (the piece is named after a classic album from that era by composer Harumi Hosono),  Aegean Sea lulls us into a wide and oceanic feeling through gentle arpeggios, field recordings or birds and waves, and some strange and otherworldly synth work.
Modern Biology's work been viewed over 100 million times and amassed him over 700K followers on TikTok (@modernbiology), has been featured by The Guardian, BBC, Genius, Vice, The Verge, DJ Mag among others, and has received editorial support on Spotify’s Music for Plants, Deep Listening, and Lava Lamp playlists. Recent performances include the Museum of Contemporary Art (LA), Art Basel (Miami) and New Forms Festival (Vancouver). The artist is passionate about protecting wild places and has committed the lion's share of the proceeds of this project to supporting the natural world.
