01 Higher Calling

Signal A

Early-80s metal instrumental. There is a hint of Iron Maiden in the harmonised lead guitars, hence the title.

I was messing around with a tapping riff that I had come up with back in January. The main riff here sort of fell out of the tapping thing. As is often the case with these things, the original tapped intro does not actually appear on the finished track.

I do not really know where the bass solo idea came from. I just felt it needed some sort of change of pace from the relentless rock guitar hammering. It feels out of place on this track, like Maiden meets Sade.

I do not really like this very much. Perhaps it will grow on me, but it took three days because I kept having to drag myself back to it.
