From legendary techno don, veteran producer and long time Far Out contributor Kirk Degiorgio, comes ‘Sambatek’. Sourced from classic samba drum breaks and organic percussive elements, this album transposes the essence of ‘ritmos do Brasil’ into the late night peak time techno soundscape Kirk has enriched for over 20 years. A collection of pulsating, evolving and unrelenting techno stormers, ‘Sambatek’ is accompanied by remixes from a worldwide cast of established and up & coming producers appearing on the Far Out imprint for the first time.

As ever Kirk Degiorgio brings his A game to this release for the far Out family. From the dark, ethereal, Berlin-esque sonics of the album opener, to the housey Detroit-infused stabs of TRACK D and the booming warehouse rave ethic of Track E, this album showcases Kirk’s passion for these two traditionally disparate musical genres coalescing into the symbiotic rhythmic experience of ‘Sambatek’.

With a career spanning over two decades Kirk has come far from his upbringing in East London. Creator of the label ART (Applied Rhythmic Technology) in the 80’s, Kirk released the early works and productions from B12, Carl Craig, Aphex Twin, The Black Dog, Photek, Stasis amongst others. Kirk’s own productions and remixes throughout these past two decades have been also released by such labels as Mo Wax, Planet E, Ubiquity, Versatile, Peacefrog and many more.
Keeping intact his soul boy roots Kirk reflects a Detroit sound incorporated with funk, jazz and soul influences which has resulted in a series of projects working under such aliases: As One (which made the Muzik top 30 in 1994/95), Offworld (Full LP on Far Out), Esoterik, Elegy and Super-A-Loof. Remixing artists as varied as Azymuth, Coldcut, 4 Hero, Innerzone Orchestra, Papo Vasquez and many more proving his musical spectrum has no boundaries. 

This project is accompanied by remixes from BNJMN, Rick Wilhite, Jonas Kopp, NX-1 and Spatial, all of whom are new and welcome to the label’s roster. Kirk Degiorgio’s project will be showcased during his world tour in the summer of 2013, where he will be performing the tracks on various stages across the globe, accompanied by female percussionists.

“SambaTek was another wonderful opportunity for me to work with Far Out Recordings and explore the label’s deep Brazilian connections. Whilst my Offworld project was a collaboration with the legendary Azymuth band, SambaTek is a collision of traditional Brazilian percussion tracks and state-of-the-art techno. I've always loved Brazilian rhythms - from heavy batucada breakdowns to gentle melancholy sambas. Inacio is a splendid percussionist from the escola do samba of Padre Miguel and it was a real treat to work with his talented percussion band. The rhythms used are traditional and we both wanted to keep them that way. My task was to interpret the language, the shifting patterns and grooves of Brazilian music and translate these into a modernist form, creating unique combinations with the four-to-the-floor beats of classic techno. These superb musicians did a great job and it was truly a pleasure to work on this project for Far Out. "James Grant's Anjunadeep 04 Sampler" collects four distinctive vibes from his mix on the "Anjunadeep 04" album - described by DJ Mag as "another dependably excellent instalment from the Anjunadeep stable". 

Andrew Bayer & James Grant join forces for a fresh house reworking of Above & Beyond's uplifting anthem "Prelude" - recently used on the ITV adverts for the African Cup Of Nations. Taking the track in a different direction, the duo's rework oozes deep vibes with French house sweeps, nu disco grooves and chopped up R&B vocals merging with the original's uplifting key - adding some classic breakbeat funk in the breakdown.

A stand out track from "Anjunabeats Volume 9", Parker & Hanson's "Afterthought" is then given the remix treatment by Anjunadeep star Colin Fisher aka Soundprank. Bringing his unique mellow vibe to the original, his interpretation retains the original's charismatic piano magic.

Deep house legend Vincenzo then follows with his melodic groover "Get To Know You". A laidback deep house shuffler with cosmic textures and hypnotic vocal samples, "Get To Know You" is an essential for fans of Anjunadeep's deeper side. 

The package is completed with a welcome return of the enigmatic Stephen J. Kroos. Dark, brooding but deeply uplifting, "Phobos" adds a progressive twist to the classic techno vibes; with a haunting chord progression producing a truly atmospheric track.

Slowly it‘s all over town, Chymera‘s second album ‘Death By Misadventure‘ is about to be released. Genre-wise it is difficult to name as Chymera plays with styles like Detroit, Deep-House, Breaks and even Electronica. However, the common denominator is the typical feeling Chymera is able to create, which he took to another level during the album process.  
 
As a whole, the album is a cinematic wall of sound, more relaxed than you might expect from him, but still dominated by tunes with imperative grooves and alluring synths. 
 
One of them is ’Strange Things Are Afoot’, an upbuilder which captivates straight from the beginning, right towards the break, where the emotional element - the typical Chymera synth – puts you under a spell. A perfect tastemaker for the album. 
 
On the flip side, we are happy to have two highly valued artists from the infamous Delsin imprint as remixers: Conforce and Claro Intelecto.  
 
Conforce’s remix treatment is a classic Detroit stomper with a manic groove. Timeless from beginning to end.  
 
Claro Intelecto, who has just released a wonderful album on Delsin, goes deep with his remix. Strong in the beats and sophisticated in the sounds, he brillantly rounds up this release.

Space Hardware is ready to unleash its second release following the genre defiant label opener from Placeholder. Taking the reins for this next outing is Croydon based Deft (whom spotters will recognise as the man behind the opening track on MJC’s recent DJ Kicks, as included here) with help from fast rising yet already legendary vocalist Om’mas Keith. The resulting EP goes way off the beaten track into a deep and far off world of analogue sci-fi sonics.

‘Let’s Hook Up’ opens the EP with the plenty of squiggly and heat damaged synth sounds before Om’mas (who has not only collaborated with Mark Pritchard and Tom Trago and added his production nous to Frank Ocean’s LP, but so too does he head up the Sun Ra referencing hip hop collective, Sa-Ra) drops some languid vocal rhymes in from above. Sounding something like Snoop Dog and Harmonic 313 in a cosmic face-off, it’s a glistening yet predatory track that takes you to another place entirely. So too does the same track come in a voiceless instrumental version, thereby allowing the dense and gauzy electronics to really shine through and fire at your every synapse.

On the flip, ‘Lucid_Overline’ is a more beat driven affair. Slowed house kicks are the undercarriage upon which glitchy claps ride, dark and melancholic chords linger and from which unidentifiable vocal woos float out in swathes of echo to every corner of the tune, drawing you in and enveloping you tightly as it goes.

And so to the aforementioned DJ Kicks licensed track, ‘Loqux & Past’, a beautifully tripped and spaced out arrangement of loosely gathered garage hits, stuttering kicks and diffuse harmonics. Clearly, Deft has a knack for sound design that stays true to his name: everything here sounds designed for purpose rather than culled from a sample pack, with the immersive results as difficult to pigeon hole as anything you’ll hear this year.
