🎯 Know Your Arrows 🎯 is the new single by Wakefield indie pop group St Cyrus, released on Philophobia Music on 7th May 2021. 

During a time where we mainly stayed at home 🏠 this one actually travelled a wee bit. During the first lockdown in March 2020 Know Your Arrows was born a Chris Bonner bassline on his not so narrow boat in Leeds Dock ⚓ It made it's way over the Aire waves 🌊 where lyrics and melody then wrapped their way around it during morning walks through the rhubarb fields 🚜 of Ouzlewell Green with Cosmo the dog 🐩 

We tried to come to terms with the global pandemic 😷, we reflected on stuff, you know, the apocalypse, family and friends 🧘‍♀️. We took a good look around and had a word with ourselves. Know Your Arrows 🎯 

Kez returned from making an 80s music tv series in Salford, layered more vocals from Bramley🎙and then the track was mentally mixed on the road, the road to Rothwell during evening walks to Springhead Park 🖼. We listened to a lot of AC/DC, but also Yard Act and Prefab Sprout 🌱.

Know Your Arrows

Firebomb is our second single of 2021.

The song is about feeling profound sadness after seeing footage of a chick being ‘debeaked’ as part of the process of factory farming. About prompting the conversation about using a diversity of tactics when working for positive change, whatever that might be.

The melody of the song was made from bass harmonics, the softer, higher overtones created when you press lightly n the strings. Simple but joyful.

This is an odd little number. I was never sure how it should sound. Kerry's vocals make this one for me and I like the kinda constant basic pulse of it, it's a wee bit Scottish in places too.

Back To Where It All Went Wrong

Wild In The Country is a bit of a folky pop song about finding our feet in West Yorkshire's Rhubarb Triangle. We played this song a couple of times live with Shake Your Halo Down but it never felt quite full enough with just the one electric guitar. It reminds me a little bit of World Party song. My favourite bit is the Chris Bonner inspired bass notes in the middle eight guitar solo bit :-)

St Cyrus is the project of singer songwriter Chris Charlton, from Wakefield, West Yorks. Originally from Montrose, Scotland Charlton's first ever band was actually with Mogwai's Stuart Braithwaite, aged 11 😄. Chris played in seminal UK hardcore pop outfit Chopper (Crackle records, Fierce Panda) and then influential indie-emo band Pylon, championed by fellow Wakey pals The Cribs. 

St Cyrus is melodic, catchy alt pop, crafted since 2020 in the West Yorkshire rhubarb triangle fields, think The Decemberists meets Death Cab for Cutie but from Yorkshire.

With previous plays on BBC Introducing and Amazing Radio, collaborations with The Research's Georgina Jakubiak and Get Cape, Wear Cape, Fly, St Cyrus is officially charged with creating music that you can't get out of your head. Latest single 'All The Eyes Are On Us' is released 28th July 2023.
