The end of the party - bonus

New sound pack in GarageBand had a drum loop called Bump in the Night. So I used that and played a few chords overtop and played a bass guitar as well. 

I really like major 7 chords, starting to get understanding of diatonic chords and their inversions. This song I am satisfied with because I didn’t use a melody generator but created the simple melody myself this time. 

My goals for songwriting right now are to get through the material from Holistic Songwriting Academy. Another goal is to get competent. A third important goal is to enjoy myself along the way. One way I feel successes is in making these short songs.

I had been stressing out about being in over my head and having anxiety about not remembering the lecture material and not being able to write well. But progress is happening. I have more skills pertaining to keyboard hand patterns now, as I’ve been collecting them. Also my dexterity is improving from my decades long hiatus on the piano. And my sense of rhythm or being “on the click” is also improving. The clapping patterns exercises provided by HSA will inform my melodies going forward. 

So all in all, I take satisfaction with my progress so far and I look forward to further progress and breakthroughs!

Inspired by a songwriting prompt from Songwriting Decks. Take a colour and an emotion which generates a metaphor. I was looking at colour names from my Millenium system fandeck and saw a colour named Meltwater. I live in an area west of the Rocky Mountains where in the winter we get a weather phenomenon called a Chinook. Similar to the foehn or Santa Ana winds, it provides welcome relief during the harsh winter. We had just gotten our first -20C winter weather and I was hoping for the next chinook to arrive. 

Second verse is a quote from John Updike. Fitting because the days are short in Canada in winter. 

This is my first ever full song. I have a lot to learn, but am happy with my progress thus far.

7/8 time, a melody pattern, and power words from Friedemann Findeisen’s The Songwriting Decks. 

It was just going to be a daily exercise, but I kept working on it all week. 

The key words of star sign from the songwriting also got me thinking about the contrasting astronomy of the ancients, described by Dr. Michael Heiser as different from today’s astrology.  

So anyway, I therefore wanted some spacey and choir sounds.

I tried to get all the elements of intro, verse, prechorus, chorus, post chorus, bridge and outro into the addiction formula.
